A. Lange & Sohne 722.050 wrist watches news:
Jake Erlich has been asking this question in his podcast interviews and to me, it is a very thought provoking question. Mainly I think so, because Rolex is one of the most recognized brands in the world, yet I can't remember specifically any event or situation that made an impression on me. I don't rember not knowing about the name, and the only thing I remember specifically was my mom saying once that "honey those watches are for people with lot's of money". Not in a bad or resentful way, as she always taught us to me open minded and worldly, so it was just that they were way up there in scale. All I remember "knowing" at the time though, is that this was the BEST watch in the world. I was maybe ten or eleven at the time, but I'm still baffeled about how I knew that. My dad was always keen on the best stuff, so maybe I heard him talk about it. Unlike many, and (I think) Jake had a relative or something that made the impression with theirs.Another reason I think so is because I think a
I admire most ,of all U.S. watch producers , Fred Gruen. Active as leader of his company more than 50 years in all ways starting 1894 after father Dietrich, Columbus Watch company, failed 1893. First with the thin small size pocket watch and metal dials with gold numbers. Odd form cases, pentagon being exclusive to Gruen. Sales directly through 1200+ selected jewelers in Canada and U.S. Emphasis always on quality, not quantity. First with a good variety of wrist watches 1908. The most coherent of my sloppy watch collection are my Gruen pocket watches. Two best shown hereare a rare decorated Veri-thin of 1905 in a special ordered 1929 18k pentagon wth original chain. Marked for Leo Alby of Madretsh who was first to make Veri-thins for Gruen. The dial is a solid gold alloy original with the mvnt. made before the the applied gold numbers. It has 105 years of surface dulling oxidation. It was on the shelf 24 years before sale. Only this one and the 1924 50th had decorated movements. All

It uses the exact same case as the Meridian, but has a case number of 7685, whereas the Meridian uses 7684.All in all, it is in pretty good shape, with a tad of brassing on the lugs. I replaced the damaged original crystal with a new GS lens.Even though it is pretty much a Meridian and has the same movement, I really liked the dial.
I have really been Lucky this last year or so with the watches I've managed to get my hands on, in brexit torn UK especially.I've cultivated a passion really of just a few brands and a couple of models within those brands. The passion is intentionally moderated by what is my taste aesthetically and also what is justified financially (and then perhaps just a tweak further - it is passion after all, and we only live once).I've made regrettable mistakes along the way, bought things I didn't like enough, Lost money and most annoying of all - sold some pieces at the wrong time and really taken a bath at times (as my American friends say)...But also I've picked up some real beauties too. Had the please of handling, owning and loving - some of the watches we all drool over on this site. Its a special feeling to be one of the lucky ones who was able to acquire a rare bear... Occasionally, I've even flipped at the right time - never really made money - but have compensated myself for the
