Breitling a1336212/g680-2ld wrist watches news:
If you ever wanted to know who the original maker of the automatic wrist watch was, it was Harwood, a British watch company. They didn't invent the automatic winding mechanism, that was done previously in pocket watches, but they were the first to bring them to the wrist watch with a patent in 1924. Founder, John Harwood was a soldier in World War 1 and a watch maker. He wanted to create a watch that could withstand the elements better, as well as make it more convenient. He understood that constantly winding a hand-wound watch exposed it to lots of dust and other types of wear. Thus, it seemed an obvious solution to bring automatic winding via an internal rotor to the wrist watch. The design of which needed to be miniaturized and modified to work best on the wrist, rather than the pocket. In addition, Harwood created an interesting crownless, bezel adjustment system.Well that was history, and since then Harwood watches went the way of so many other watch makers. Now, after many years,
Recently I have read extensively about the Omega & Dr. George Daniels. It took Dr. Daniels 20 some years to find acceptance for the co-axial movement after having had it tested by Rolex, Patek & a few other major Swiss concerns. The cost of retooling was said to be the main factor that hampered the introduction of the Co-axial movement.Dr. Daniels is a remarkable individual & his journey from the conception of the co-axial movement to its acceptance is a struggle of absolute perseverance worthy of a Broadway Play. Perhaps someday we will see a limited edition Omega bearing Dr. Daniels name.
I've seen this advertised in more than one place as having a 62mm case diameter, but one of these very same ads had a photo with measurements that showed just at or under 50mm. For a hiking watch with a compass I think I could handle 50-ish, but I don't know about 62. Anyone know the accurate measurement? Thanks!
Promised to post a few snaps. Forgive the poor quality. Wanted to get some of the dial texture while keeping it all in focus, but depth of field didn't work out too well. Will replace it I get better ones. My personal assessment is the flash slightly lightens the blue.
Hey guys I was just wondering, do you have a watch/watches that you will never ever sell under any circumstances? I know that I will never be selling my 1960 ss cal 600 Omega, my 1968 Timex Waferthin, or my 1951 14k yg Lord Elgin. I intend to keep them all as family heirlooms.
