Rolex produced the very first Submariner in 1953 with this model ref. 6204 watch. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner would go on to not only become one of the most iconic timepieces in the world, but also one of the most heavily emulated, desired, and studied. The Rolex Submariner was the first diver's watch from Rolex and followed a legacy that started in 1926 when Rolex released its first water-resistant watch, the Oyster.Rolex really began its life in making dive watches with Panerai. True enough, early Panerai watches contain Rolex movements, and for a while in the 1930s, the Swiss and Italian companies worked together on military dive watches based on Panerai asking Rolex to help it produce timepieces for the Italian Navy. While I could comment about the differences in the following member post, suffice it to say that I never intended to give incorrect production number information, I just summarized what I have read in other authorities without quoting any of the sources. Additionally, as to the comments about the cases not being original to the watches, i.e., that Hamilton never cased a movement in some of the cases shown, that statement is no doubt correct. When collecting these vintage pocketwatches, some beautiful examples obviously have been recased, but they still do not limit a love for the beauty and the fact that the case, movement, dial and hands are all in wonderful condition and worthy of display. White Side
I very much want to defend Omega. I LOVE the two that I've got. But I just can't understand the thought process behind this watch. I just can't imagine it's going to have a large appeal. And this is going to be a watch that is produced in large numbers. Too big for a lady, and I can't imagine many dudes wearing an all white ceramic watch. To be honest, I kind of like the 4 new DSOTM black watches. I can see how they will sell. I can't see the white one having much appeal.
