Looking for an affordable blue dialed auto. Requirements:38mm or larger - prefer 40 - 44Blue dial (of course)AutomaticNo gold toneOther than that, I'm pretty open. I'm considering a Rodina or an Orient Bambino, but would like something sportier. I MIGHT wait until I can swing a blue Seiko Sumo or Tissot Seastar or PRS516.

LePhare DeLuxe Calendar--Triple Date
I picked up this old LePhare Triple Date Calendar watch today and must say I am quite excited to get it in wearable condition. I am already set on the band I will use so the easy part is done. It winds right up and ticks away without stopping, although it does not keep accurate time at all. In addition, the pins for setting the date/calendar features are frozen and do not work either, with the exception of the month pin which moves it a bit but does not turn it over. Obviously, it needs to be completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled, and any bad parts replaced. Sadly, the gentleman who fixes all of my other watches does not work on the more complicated watches, not because he cannot, but because he just does not have the 'time" necessary to spend on them. So, I will have to look around for the right person to work on this for me. In any event, it is not a watch I have seen very often and thought it was worth a small mention and a little sharing.

I got an invite to an event at the New York Institute of Technology to listen Founder and Managing Director Peter C. Stas speak about how he started his company. It was very interesting to listen to how someone takes an idea and turns it into a major swiss watch co. that produces over 95000 pieces a year. He also gave some valuable info about his relationships with distributors and retailers. I was very surprised to hear that the U.S is only 4% of his market, Asia taking 44%. I know the economy is bad but I expected more. After his presentation he open it up to Q&A. After words most of the students fled out which left me a wonderful opportunity to introduce myself. Since I am in the works of starting my own watch company (which by the way is expensive and difficult) I was able to pick his brain a little bit. One more request regarding Seiko Orange Monster - wrist shots please!
Before making a final decision on an OM, I'd like to see some wrist shots, along with the size of the wrist it's on. I've seen it listed as 42mm and as 41mm, but would like to see how it sits on the wrist. Also, any comments regarding comfort would be appreciated, particularly comfort comparisons of stainless band or rubber strap. I have a feeling I'll eventually end up with one, and I have the $$ sitting in my paypal account. I'd have to wait a while to get the O & W I'm looking at, so if I will just end up with an OM later anyway, I figure I might as well pick it up first since I have the opportunity.There are two things in particular that draw me to it. I like that it shouts ORANGE!!!, and I like the way they designed the crown guard. I prefer the look of it on the rubber strap, so I might just get it with 2 rubber straps instead of 1 stainless and 1 rubber, although the price difference is only $10.Thanks!
