At Baselworld 2015, Bremont unveils two new watches designed in partnership with Jaguar. Calling upon the watch and car brands¡¯ shared British heritage, the new Bremont Jaguar MKI and Jaguar MKII have features reminiscent of the classic Jaguar E-Type from the 1960s.The MKI and MKII are extensions from a six-piece limited edition that Bremont made last summer. Jaguar produced six handmade ¡°continuation¡± E-Types, built to the specifications of the Lightweight E-Type of 1964. Bremont¡¯s special pieces were made as a complement to those cars. The new watches will not be produced in a limited edition and are intended to be more affordable: whereas the limited-edition Lightweight watch was made of white gold and aluminum, the MKI and MKII are cased in stainless steel. The major Jaguar features are visible on the dials of the MKI (small seconds) and the MKII (chronograph). Both watches were designed in conjunction with Jaguar to echo the car¡¯s dashboard. The railroad minutes track on each watc
The Cubli isn't a watch, but if you love mechanical timepieces you are going to love this robotic cube. Designed in Zurich and no doubt somewhat inspired by mechanical watch movements, the Cubli is an ultra-modern robot that feels like what happens in Switzerland when people with a focus on the past also focus on the future. When I imagine how the watch industry can better interact with the technology industry I think of something like this. What is Cubli? It is a 15cm perfect cube that moves by itself using a series of spinning wheels. The wheels create momentum but also provide balance due to the power of centripetal force. Not being a physicist I am not going to even attempt to explain how it works using all of the proper terms. What you need to know is that it is amazing to see in action. The result is a cube that "walks" and can stay balanced on a point, even on moving surfaces. In addition to moving and balancing, the Cubli can also jump.Inside the Cubli are what the makers refer
This is probably the first time I have ever seen ones of these watches for sale. There are perhaps a few thousand of them in the world for the entire Cora series. This diamond studded limited edition is one of only300 on the planet. I would classify the Temption Cora as a woman's watch that I wish were larger enough for me to wear, because they look so great. Temption is a German watch brand that I speak fondly of. I own a Temption CGK203 which I reviewed here. You'll notice my glowing feelings about the brand. The Cora is unlike any woman's watch I've seen before. You'll agree that it combines a certain classic and modern feel to it. Not quite as Bauhaus as most Temption watches, but it certainly shares an understated functionality. Despite the smaller 29mm size of this watch, nothing is sacrificed in making it a full-blooded mechanical timepiece. Inside is an automatic Swiss chronograph movement (an ETA 2094, smallest automatic chronograph movement), which is gold and viewable through
I like Omega watches and own a gold Deville on a leather strap for over 50 years. Recently I got the urge to buy another watch. I found out that my local jeweler had lost Omega several years ago. Omega had pulled out of all stores and open an Omega Boutique. I guess that it was a bad move because they have closed the boutique and now have no distribution in Western Washington state. Not being able to see and try on the watches I bought a Rolex instead. So what is going on with Omega? My Rolex AD who also use to be an Omega AD says they turned off many dealers with the way they pulled their line. They have no interest in selling Omega if they were asked to again.
I'm in the process of buying my first Panerai -- I have chosen a 533. My local AD does not offer any sort of discount but there are some decent deals out there.Forgive me if this is a newbie question but I am noticing that the movement appears different in some of the photos. On the Panerai homepage the movement looks like this:But I have also seen photos online that look like this ... no CAL. in front of the P.2003, letter do not appear to be blue, etc. :Does the appearance of the movement change from year to year, or from the official photos to later versions?I don't think there is a replica of that 10 day movement -- yet -- but it is a bit concerning.
