When we found out a few weeks ago that Defakto had released a new watch, we got very excited. They are one of the few brands out there right now that truly follows the beat of their own drum. ?Their first watch was an ETA 2824-2 powered automatic one-hander called the Eins, which we reviewed a variation of?here. ?Their second watch was also an automatic, but a 2-hander, called the Akkord. Aesthetically, the watches are bold, but restrained, with large high contrast markers and hands, yet the good sense to hold back ever so slightly and focus on proportions. They speak both to contemporary graphic design and classical schools of design. The outcome was two very distinct watches, available in several versions that go for about $500 – $600. I've always loved watches, ever since I could remember telling the time. I remember my very first watch but that's besides the point.I want to pass this love of the art to my daughter. To that end I bought her a very expensive (for me) Rolex cocktail watch for her 16th, I could barely afford it but she hardly dares wear it, so that defeated the point. So now I've bought her a Longines watch; still beautiful, mechanical, still solid gold (9ct aledgedly) and she loves it and wears it, which is the point.Now, I'd like to know a little more about it so I can tell her and make the bond complete. It was an eBay 'find' (I know, I know), but it looks so old and hardly worth copying, I thought it worth a go.I've done my fair share of browsing and used the vintage watch finder but I can't find a good match. I beleive it's from around late '30's early 40's (which stuns my daughter as she think I'm ancient) but I can't find a precise match & I've looked hard.Any help & valuation (for insur

Is it just me?
Is it just me, or are watches trending down to 42 mm from 44 mm over the last year? When I was watch shopping last year, didn't notice many 42 mm options. Now, 42 mm seems to be a trend. Probably more suitable for the average wrist.

The real problem with Chinese Movements.......

Unfortunately I won¡¯t be finding one of these under the tree this year (or likely ever!), but it was a delight to try one on at the AP boutique in HK. It is a stunning combination of colours and contrasts - absolutely beautiful.
