Setting my focus on 1950s watches for the time being (mainly so I don't go OCD crazy trying to buy one of everything ever produced in every time period lol!)I was just curious, besides the obvious Timex, what other brands were the big players in terms of budget and entry level watches in the early to mid 1950s? I know some of the big names had specific lines focused on entry level models like Hamiltons "Illinois" line from 53-55, Elgins Wadsworth, etc, but what about the brands beneath even those? I know of a few names like Westclox, Hallmark, Oris etc, but what are some of the other really common ones that might have been seen on many wrists back then? What was the equivalent of today's Fossils and Casios? As popular as Hamilton, Bulova and Elgins main models are in the collecting world today, not everyone in 1952 had today's equivalent of close to a grand to spend on a watch. Watch arrived yesterday, Pics today.
I started a thread about Krieger watches, I didn't get a lot of response, but at 200 bucks I couldn't pass it up.The case is 40mm without the crown and the crystal is only about 30mm. It came with a nice ss bracelet. Nothing to fancy. If anything it's a touch on the "boring" side of classic. It does wear nice and you can't beat the price. It will not make the top ten but I see it having good wrist time.
