Illinois Auction find
My wife and I went to a local auction today in Amish country that we frequently attend. Sometimes they have watches, always have some really crummy clocks. Today they had a nice Illinois "Aristocrat" Double sunk dial with a gold filled case that seemed like it was running pretty good. I have just recently been learning about pocket watches and thought I would give it a go. I don't think I overpaid, and the bidding "wars" are always fun. I have been looking for a nice "daily wearer" pocket watch that I can use for my cowboy action shooting costume and this will fit the bill nicely. It has a not so obvious scratch on the crystal from the 7 to the 4, and under magnification you can see that it was someones daily wearer because the bottom rim of the case has a wear (not through the gold fill) mark like it was carried crown up in the owners pocket. New incomming - who to share with?
First off I know it'll be worthless without pics and it may be a while since it's supposed to take 4 weeks until it arrives, but here's the story, and can you guess what it is? Not Dennis,( he already knows).About 4 years ago my wife turned forty and she had always hinted that her wedding ring wasn't as big and shiny as some of her friends'. I was unemployed at the time we got engaged and had to use savings for her ring. So I saved for a year and presented her with a watch my sons picked out and the monies to buy a new bigger ring. She ultimately declined but I always kept the offer on the table for a ring or whatever she wanted.During those four years I tried getting her a "nicer" watch which included two Michelle and a Tag, none of which really excited her.Recently she started looking while I was looking at watches for a nice one of her own.Ultimatley she decided on a Rolex, but she couldn't find the right color/bracelet combination, and she wasn't super excited until two days ago

AD just called and I'm next on the list the SD43. Most likely buying as an investment piece and don't want to unseat my SubC. Worth the speculation to be an investment piece, or just pass and don't deal with the hassle and risk of selling down the road. Thoughts??
