With the possible exception of a classic Military Submariner & its welded-in pins, do NATO/ZULU straps 'cheapen' the look of an expensive watch? This debate has been going on for some time now and each side has its advocates.Functionally, NATO/ZULU straps serve a practical purpose. They're inexpensive, durable, can be laundered easily and prevent watch loss in the event one pin fails. On the other hand, they often pale in comparison to an Oyster or Jubilee bracelet if substituted on a Rolex. If they are indeed best suited for less-expensive watches, then the obvious answer would be to use them with such. I've worn NATO/ZULUs with various inexpensive watches and actually kind of dig them. As far as putting one on something like a Patek-Philippe or Vacheron-Constantin, I might have second thoughts.
Last night the beautiful Omega Boutique in posh Phipps Plaze had its formal opening. Located in the Buckhead section of Atlanta, the Boutique hosted the President of Omega, Stephen Urquhart; Omega spokesperson and ambassador, golfer Greg Norman and 140 invited guests. Drinks and canapes were served, but the highlight of the evening was the wide array of Omega watches. I attended along with good friend and Omega guru, Fr. John and our mutual friend Mark. We were shown all of the latest Omega offerings by fellow WIS and Omega Boutique associate Brent Reames. While there are a number of beautiful new Omegas the high point for us was the new de Ville co-axial 18K pie-pan which was brought in for the occasion. Needless to say, Fr. John, Mark and I had a delightful evening. I wish each of you could have been there. Cheers, Bill P.
Hi,Im a recent owner of a new TT Submariner (for just over a month). I just noticed after swimming at the beach that the Cyclops / magnification finish looks worn/scratched. Ive been searching but cant find much besides scratched crystal. It is really bothering me. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advanced,Rob
