Omega 1054/3000 wrist watches news:
First, let me tell you, it has been a great experience reading so many comments on this forum over the last several years. I am a rare currency dealer and have always had a passion for watches. My dad is (still) a watchmaker, and I have grown up watching him work on watches ever since I can remember. Once, I was very young and saw him working on a watch that I already knew was hugely expensive. I asked him how he could do it, and he just told me he treated it like any other watch. If he thought about the value, it may affect his work. Growing up in Springfield, MO I didn't get to see too many high end watches, and there was always the elusive "Patek". I grew up dreaming about them, and was 14 until I even saw one, which was the first year I bought my first 1603 SS/14k Datejust. To make a VERY long story short, I just turned 29 years old and I bought myself my first modern Patek wrist watch to celebrate. I was looking around at the local AD and the salesman noticed my SD4k and asked if I wanted it cleaned up. I said sure, expecting some light wiping with a polishing cloth. It came back as if they boiled it in water. Apparently they steam cleaned it. I would assume the seals are good even after shooting steam right at the watch. Thoughts?
So I'm not sure how it happened, but my 14060M had it's crystal chipped Friday night around the 30 mark on the bezel. I think the main question everyone is going to ask is: Does it bother you? and the answer is Yes lol. I doubt it can be polished. It's chipped along the edge of the crystal. Not a scratch on the face itself. I've done endless reading on here and other places online. I'm still confused. Some people say send it away for $800 and have the full service done. Other people are claiming that it's $150 for a crystal replacement with pressure test. I called one dealer recommended to me by a friend on here and they were doubtful they could JUST replace the crystal and pressure test. What are all of your thoughts? The watch keeps amazing time. I'd be very happy to just replace the crystal and have it pressure tested as the rest of the watch is mint.Pics added: It's a lot worse in person. It's almost like a slice. I think my girlfriend's diamond pendant may have hit it. It catches
