Help identifying Omega Constellation
Hello :I recently inherited this watch. I've spent a ton of time trying to find out about it without much success, since it seems like there are infinite numbers of Omega watch models and this one is very rare. So my last option is to recurr to some forums and hope someone helps me with some info. Thanks in advance to any replies.As to now I've established the following information : Omega Constellation 18K Yellow Gold Day Date with Gold Dial and leather strapEstimated price from only 3 that I've found in the whole web $1.700-2.500It seems the watch is very rare since I've found so few similar watches, and on the Omega site they currently don't sell any Constellation models with that same dial with the month and date hands. The original leather strap is missing, but seems to be relatively inexpensive to replace (like U$S 50).There is something weird with this watch though, the back/casing is steel and on all the other similar ones I found, the back is gold. Cost of materials?
Have you ever wondered how much the materials cost in a high end watch...as a percentage of its price?This came up after I noticed that watches with solid gold alloy cases are FAR more expensive by thousands of dollars...in spite of the fact that the actual gold content might only be an additional $800.00.Strangely enough, there don't seem to be any solid brass cases available. An alloy of 74% Copper, 25% Zinc and 1% Tin would have a gold like colour and some corrosion resistance.
