F.P. Journe Releases Octa Perpetual Calendar
Independent watchmaker Francois-Paul Journe has added a ninth model to his eponymous brand’s Octa collection, called the F.P. Journe Quanti¨¨me Perp¨¦tuel, a perpetual calendar timepiece with an instantaneous jump function. The watch, which will be limited to 900 pieces, made its debut in Geneva during the SIHH and GTE watch fairs.A perpetual calendar (“quanti¨¨me perp¨¦tuel” in French) displays the exact date ¡ª along with the day, month, and often the moon-phase ¡ª by automatically taking into account the variable length of the months and leap-year cycle. Creating such a calendar is one of watchmaking’s most difficult feats, since its movement must have a mechanical ¡°memory¡± of 1,461 days, or four years. The mechanism is usually based on a differential gear system from the hour wheel and includes several hundred components, cogs, gears, levers and rockers. Rolex Clasp Question
I have a question for everybody, I want to change out the clasp on my Plat. Yachtie to a Daytona clasp or GMT IIc clasp (after seeing Scott's pictures). I called a watchmaker who does high end watches, Rolex, Omega, etc., they said that they can order either clasp, as I own both Daytona and GMT IIc (I know they do a serial # check). OK this is where it gets tricky, they told me that Rolex makes them return the original clasp. Well that does not help me since I only want to put this new one on my Yachtmaster. Has anybody heard of such a policy? I know Rolex is particular about keeping their watches original, and all they would know is that I want another clasp for a watch I own (Daytona or GMT IIc). My feelings are that I purchased the clasp that came on the watch and I would be purchasing the new clasp, I bought both, how can they say they must return the original to be able to get a new one. Breitling's Direction: New Proprietary Movements or another suppllier?
Has anyone here heard which direction Breitling has decided on when it comes to their future movements? They are in a somewhat "in-between" category it seems to me marketing-wise. Developing new movements I understand takes roughly $1,000,000.00 these days, which is a fair amount of coin. Anyone know which way Breitling has decided to go?
