What a friend told me to be imminent in February already seems to have come to a head yesterday. This morning I learned from him that Vostok, the Russian brand, is having to give up the fight for survival. The short term debts of the company (approx. US$ 1.0 mio) and the dire market situation in Russia brought the company to its knees. The original of the article is found here. The English translation is below:Arbitration Court of Tatarstan Having considered this week, a declaration of insolvency of the plant, confirmed him a member of the interim governing self-regulated organization of arbitral managers of natural monopolies fuel and energy complex (SEMTEK) Andrei Volkov. Arbitration will revert to the question of insolvency "of the East" on 31 August, writes Kommersant. Chistopolsky "East" was established in November 1941 on the basis of the evacuated Second Moscow Watch Factory. After the war the factory began to specialize in mechanical wristwatch, can withstand significant shock and
Does anyone know if they exist and what do you think of a rubber strap on a RO?
Well, my watch collecting began many many years ago, around 1994 when I bought my first 'nice' watch, a TT Sub with blue dial. I kept that as my only watch for several years until IWC's caught my eye. Got myself a Flieger 3706, a 3713 Doppelchronograph, and an Aquatimer 3536. Anyways, I spent a lot of time at AD's, just browsing, and collecting all manner of freebie brochures etc that they were only too willing to hand out. I then sold all those watches so that I could buy a house. Many many years later, in 2012 in fact, I re-started my watch collection again, and having acquired 5 lovely Rolex's, am now ready to explore some other brands. I have an AP RO on my wishlist, but also an Omega Moonwatch. I've always wanted one of them, either the 3570.50 manual wind Hesalite, or a 3572.50 or 3573.50 with a see thru case back.Anyways, as I was thinking about Moonwatches this afternoon, I suddenly remembered something an AD gave me for free many many years ago. As soon as I got home, I hunted
Would like to get some opinions. I recently have been given an offer to buy a two tone Rolex Thunderbird made during my birth year. No box, papers or bracelet. It has the 1570 movement, 14k gold unidirectional bezel and stainless steel 36mm case. It is in excellent condition including bezel and has been serviced recently. The dial is gold tone. The seller is asking $3,500. I never thought about a two tone until now. Being made in my birth year makes it extremely tempting. I have been shopping for a Rolex to be worn in casual and formal attire (sporty but also dressy). I really like the added bonus of the unidirectional bezel with date as it would be an extra function for a watch at this price point. Should I pull the trigger or keep shopping around? 36-39mm case sizes look perfect on my 7 inch wrist. Thanks for any opinions.
