Patek Philippe's biggest announcement at Baselworld 2016 was a new world time chronograph: the reference 5930. We had a chance to spend some time with it in the hand, and on the wrist, and we've formulated some first impressions of this new flagship complicated watch from one of the world's most famous, and most intensely scrutinized, luxury watch companies. 1 OF 7 We've already talked a bit about the history of the movement in the new reference 5930, so we'll just recap briefly: the base caliber is the self-winding chronograph caliber CH 28-520, which was first used by Patek Philippe in the annual calendar chronograph 5960P (P for platinum) in 2006. This was Patek's first ever in-house self-winding chronograph, and the base movement, according to Patek, is 33 mm x 4.9 mm (that is, the chronograph mechanism alone, absent the annual calendar plate). New Benrus
Just got this little jewel a day or so back. Love the detail of the 'dentil' trim effect and the 'sudo Curvex' shape. Bet I know what they were competing with. Great little runner, and it shows very little wear. Still need to polish it up but, it is in great shape for what I am guessing is a 40's vintage watch. Not sure yet of the exact year. That is what many have expressed is the most frustrating part of collecting Benrus. Not alot of easy info like there is for the Hamiltons.Came with a vintage pigskin strap that is in superb shape. Really like that strap's look now that I have one. I know it was a common look for the time for most of the American manufacturers, and you can see why. Very natural in it's appearance and very complementary of the watch as a whole.Let me see any cousins you might have!

Passed up a 5164 today... should I have?
I was passing my AD today and so thought I¡¯d pop in for a coffee and a chat..He brought out 2 pieces to show me.. one was a 5711 blue dial which I¡¯ve never tried on before - Not avail to buy but he also brought out a steel 5164 which was for sale.. we chatted about it and I was tempted but in the end when side by side with my 5167r I decided either it wasn¡¯t the right next Patek for me or at least not today..Was I right?Deal was List priceI think had it been a piece that was going up by 20% then it would def have been more likely going home with me.. but as it was I just felt that it didn¡¯t sing to me in the way my RG one did...
