Patrizzi & Co. sold a manuscript by Abraham-Louis Breguet for a record 2.3 million Swiss Francs (approx. $2,078,000) on Friday, May 7, in Geneva. Nicolas G. Hayek, president and CEO of Montres Breguet S.A. purchased the 354-page document on behalf of the Breguet Museum in Paris. Dictated by Breguet to his assistant over the last five years of his life, it is one of the most important horological documents in existence with in-depth explanations and drawings of Breguet’s many innovations and watchmaking legacy. Despite technical problems that prevented online bidding, total sales from the auction were 5,802,250 Swiss Francs (approx. $5.24 million). About 70 people attended the auction in Geneva. In total, 317 lots were offered with many selling for more than double the presale estimate.Along with the Breguet manuscript, top lots were a Patek Philippe split-seconds chronograph perpetual calendar, Ref. 5004, in 18k yellow gold that sold for CHF 210,000 (approx. $189,814), and a
When did Omega discontinue the Seamaster 2254.50? Is it possible that a gray market dealer could have an NOS one? Thanks,Chris
Has anyone else received a direct mailing advertisement from CVS, which includes the pharmacist wearing the Yacht-Master II?I don't recall seeing one of those on the shelf at the pharmacy counter.
Went to an auction today. Found this in a little 'flat' of stuff, it was only 5$ so I popped on it!It was kinda hard to photograph. But it's in ok shape, the crystal is plastic and has gotten scratched, could I fix that? My dad suggested we take very fine sandpaper and a buffer and try to polish the plastic crystal up.It's made mainly of brass, the green around it is like some sort of faux marble pattern. Made in Germany, I've wound it and it works like a charm!Anyone know anything about desk clocks?
Apollo 11 launched from Cape Kennedy on July 16, 1969, 09:32 am EDT; Nearing the Moon, the descent engine continued to provide braking thrust until about 102 hours, 45 minutes into the mission. Partially piloted manually by Armstrong, the Eagle landed in the Sea of Tranquility in Site 2 at 0 degrees, 41 minutes, 15 seconds north latitude and 23 degrees, 26 minutes east longitude. At about 109 hours, 42 minutes after launch, Armstrong stepped onto the moon, with ¡one small step for man¡ About 20 minutes later, Aldrin followed him. [wearing his Omega Speedmaster! --Neil's remained on-duty in the LEM]. I am fortunate with this 'older cousin,' 1058 movements earlier than Neil's 105.012-65 with JB Champion Mesh Bracelet. I honor the Apollo 11 Crew's anniversary with a glorious Romeo Y Julieta, Habano. Colonel 58
