Hello.I have just started collecting watches. Here are the ones I have so far: Citizen BL800453E Mens Eco-Drive Calibre 8700 SS (My everyday watch)Zeno-Watch Basel Pilot Classic Skeleton 6558-9S-a1Zeno-Watch Basel Pilot Classic Chrono Lune 6557L-a1Invicta Chronograph 9671Technomarine MoonMy buddy gave me the last four and got me started. He was cleaning out some stuff and did not want them. I am not really sure what I like so far, but I tend to like most everything I see. There are so many it is hard to learn about them all. Is there any definitive guide to manufacturers and models for new collectors? I do not think I will be buying into the genuine luxury level for a while, at least until I figure out what I am doing.I am fascinated by the variety of designs. I need to learn more about movement and mechanics. Fairly ignorant at this point. Anyway, this is a field which it seems may take a while to master. That makes it worth doing and fun for me.Any revealing comments on my
Hello,I recently purchased a circa 1940 Rodeny in a solid 14k coral (pink) gold case. the watch has 982 caiber movement and it is pretty nice. These old pink gold watches were popular for awhile...in hamilton's case, WWII intervened before they could make too many and they focused on making military chronometers thereafter. You don't see many of the hamilton coral watches around, especially in solid gold. I am waiting for a Hamilton Rutledge in platinum to show up in the mail...nice because it isn't engraved on the caseback and the case doesn't havethe knocks and dings that even platinum can get. I also have a vintage Patek Philippe 96 that is at the watch-maker's getting overhauled. So, my watch riches runneth over at the moment!
Our pal timebender sent me a great link to a place that sells Pug Watches. This got me thinking. I own a "Macaw" watch, an Alfa Romeo Watch and a WTF Watch - timepieces that combine my other passions with my love of horology. What watches do you have that do double duty?
I stayed up really late to be able to get my first wrist check thread. When I wake up I will be washing my car and will be wearing my G-Shock.
Just got a Bluesy, (first Rolex!) and have a question: the center gold links are getting scratched up amazingly quickly and easily. Like, just looking at them gets them scratched up. My shirt cuff scratches them. My desk pad. The dust particles in the air scratch this bracelet. Of course, as I researched and stared at this watch for weeks, I never noticed this in pictures. This is not an OMG-I-got-a-scratch-what-should-I-do thread. My question is, do you care that the center links of the whole watch looks beat to hell? Should I care? Do you clean it up? Or is it simply character? And one more question: will the white gold Smurf show scratches the same way? Worse? Thanks y'all!
