An interesting article about the SD vs. the SDDS
RJ from the blog site Fratello Watches posted an article with some interesting observations about the Sea-Dweller vs. the Deep Sea Sea-Dweller - you can read by clicking here. For me personally, I'm with him 100% - the watch just doesn't appeal to me. I respect it for it's engineering achievements, but beyond that, I don't find it attractive, nor is it practical for me to wear with my typical wardrobe. Here's a few shots of the SDDS I tried on in Tokyo:Where I don't necessarily agree with RJ is the value outlook for the watch. Yes, in the short term, the 16600 seems to be enjoying a bit of a bump. But consider how many fewer SDDS there are out there and how they're selling relative to the rest of the Rolex line. I wonder - do we have another future Cosmograph on our hands? Back in the 60's, dealers practically couldn't give the Cosmograph away - no one cared for them at all. So they sold in extremely small quantities, and well....the rest is history.What do you think? Illinois - Junk?
I mostly hang out in the Bulova/Accutron forum but I hope you will allow me to come here to pick your brains a bit. I went to an estate auction this AM and there must have been 1500 watches for sale, mostly junk. They were selling them by the box and I bought a box to get a Railroad Approved Accutron. There were some other Bulovas in the box as well as some Timexes, some Walthams, a Gruen, a Wittnauer, a Hamilton, a Croton etc but here's the one I'm wondering about. This illinois doesn't run and won't set, the crown can be wound off of it. Is it a escapee from the junk bin to which it should be returned or is it a candidate for resurrection. Any information will be appreciated.

Worth the effort for third year warranty?
My newly acquired 15300st has nearly the full 2-year warranty remaining. I've registered it, but not sure about getting the third year added. As I understand it, you have to send it to AP for the pressure test to get the additional year.Reluctant to go through that when it is unlikely to be an issue - my RO won't get any wrist time in or around open water. Those duties will be handled by the Rolex brigade. Thoughts guys?
