As we told you last month, there isn't a better place to be for a car or watch fan than Monterey Car Week. We've already shown you some of the cars we saw at the contemporary-focused Quail Motorsport Gathering, and now we're back to talk watches. OK fine, we'll show you some cars from the headlining Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, too. This is a good old-fashioned modem-burner, folks. At what point do you decide a time piece is no longer worth the investment to bring it back to life? Is this again a personal and passionate choice or is there a set of criteria that is generally accepted for guidelines?I have a Tag. Not sure what model, all it has on the dial is "Professional". I have owned this watch since new. Just after Costco opened in my local area (north greater Toronto area) 20 years ago, they carried the Tag Heuer line. I purchased one from them. This watch, aside of the occasional service and battery replacement has not been off my wrist. Now, however, after such enduring use, the watch is in need of some serious attention. It still keeps accurate time. Though I still have the original, I wore through the bracelet. The crystal is breaking down around the outer edge on the inside. It requires a serious cleaning, lubing and new gaskets/seals. Also, the crown is in need of replacing. The watch has been sent to the authorized service provider to get an estimate of
There are some great motorsport inspired/themed watches out there: Oris Williams F1, Honda B.A.R, Seiko (?), Tissot, G-shockI know several WTF members have some fine examples, so this is a roll call for pics - if you've got them, post them :). I'm hoping there are some examples I haven't seen hiding out there, and this will flush them out .To start the ball rolling, here's the Oris Williams F1 Day Date, in blue...Bring 'em out...
Hey guys,I've been looking to pickup a Speedy to add to the collection for some time and have narrowed it down to these two references the pre-moon 145.012-67 and the 35th Anniv 3569.31...two very different models, but for similar reasons. Outside of all the heritage stuff that we all know, it comes down to the value each piece provides. Pre-Moon 145.012-67 Finding a Cal 321 with a case that is in good condition, that hasn't been polished, still has all of its original parts (ie the bezel), and with the aged lume still intact is harder to find...but provides a great value. Haven't been able to find one with original bezel and lume still intact in person yet. Seen some on eBay tho...35th Anniv 3569.31This reference with the panda dial just does it for me, and with its production being limited to 3500 pieces, it makes it all the better. I found one at a vintage watch dealer in the LA area, but it doesn't come with box/papers, and they are asking a bit too much for it at just over $5200.
Good afternoon all, yes a very good afternoon indeed. FedEx just dropped off my first ever Panerai. A special thank you to Paul, Cru, Nicholas and Nick for the inspiration and the PM exchanges. This one's a beauty! The 690, one ive beem eyeballing since last July. Its lightweight compared to what I'm used to. The size isn't a problem and it wears super comfortable on my 7 flat shaped wrist! What I really love is the gorgeous blue dial! As many of you know I have a thing for blue dials and this one is truly spectacular! It changes in different light and gives off a beautiful cobalt sunburst blue color ... very hard to describe but it gorgeous, (now I know what you're talking about Paul). This is the first handwound watch I've ever owned and I was a bit reluctant at first but I think I'll delevop a bond with this one!I'd also like to say a special thank you to the forums most excellent DSW. It was a pleasure dealing with you sir! Thanks again to all you enablers.Cheers all!Sent
