Fred Gruen's preferred pocket watch case
German name Gruen means green. Fred was first in promoting green gold alloy watch cases. Customers preferred white and yellow. He also preferred the pentagon case as did customers and all were made by Gruen although many round cases were bought from U.S. makers. In 1920-30 had a custom shop in N.Y. city for platinum, diamond and custom case work. I have a good variety of pentagons, but only 2 in green gold. Most whites were 18K. All pentagon greens were 14K.
