Affordable Vintage: 1970 Grand Seiko 61GS 6145-8000
While Seiko is probably best known for their dive watches, they are also masters of creating hi-end dress watches. Their Grand Seiko (GS) line made its debut in 1960, and continued until the 1970’s. The mechanical Grand Seiko was revived in 1998 and continues production to this day. The most iconic of all the Grand Seiko case designs began as the 44GS in 1966 (manual wind), and culminated in the 61GS in 1968 (automatic). The 61GS line was the result of refinements over the years including technology from the Astronomical Observatory Concours of the late 1960’s.Reviewed here today is a 1970 Grand Seiko 6145-8000. The watch was designed by Taro Tanaka, the first graduate of a college design program hired by Seiko. He wanted to design a watch that would “sparkle brilliantly” while on display, one that would compete with the Swiss watches of the time. My Favorite Customer......
Last Season, I had a killer Wittnauer, asymetric case, and bubble back, in very very nice condition .......I was asking $400 for it .......it was a lovely watch....then one sunny afternoon, a young man, not very tall, and slight of form, with handsome features and the golden skin of a descendant of the Spanish noblility who came to this continent hundreds of years ago, walked by, stopped and turned around, .......he had spotted the vintage watches ..............He spent quite a long time perursing the group, as we chatted about old watches ......then his eye caught the Wittnauer.......we're talking fatal attraction here, you all, are only too familiar with the feeling huh ? .....nothing would do but he try it on ....( I had a simple formal black leather band on it ......)......He put the watch on, and we both stared in wonder at the watch, his wrist and how perfectly at home and just "right" it looked .....then we looked at each other and grinned two big grins ! ......but he was just g

The unthinkable is happening
For those who know me and follow my posts you know that I incredibly love my Patek 5712, well I still love it a lot, but I can honestly say that I love as much or even a little bit more my ceramic diver, I have been in Ukraine for 1 month, in Odessa, not where the civil war is raging, and took both of them, and clearly I wear much more my diver, maybe 70/30, never imagined that I would love this watch so much, but it's a truly awesome piece, and I've always wanted a ceramic watch, almost bought a Pam 335 a few years ago but went with a 233 dot dial instead, as much as I liked the Pam before it is in no way in the same league as the AP IMO.So thanks to all the enablers, Benlee in particular who posted many pics of his ceramic diver, and all the others who posted as well pics of this model, as much as I prefer the Nautilus models to the RO models, well except for the RG pieces, love the RG Jumbo and RG skeleton, but clearly prefer the PP SS models to the AP RO SS models, I incredibly lov
