Top Hollywood celebrities wore IWCs as they made their way down the famous red carpet Sunday night. Taylor Lautner wore the Portuguese Chrono Automatic, Quentin Tarantino wore the Big Pilot, and Robin Williams wore the Pilot¡¯s Mark XVI. Girard-Perregaux is about to release a new version of the still new Chrono Hawk called the Hollywoodland. An unofficial homage to the movie making capital of the world, the Chrono Hawk Hollywoodland is the latest effort in the brand's focus on entering the world of Hollywood. In 2012 Girard-Perregaux announced that it was going to be a sponsor and founding supporter of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The museum is currently in construction and will stand as an important cinema museum here in Los Angeles.Despite sounding like it, the Chrono Hawk Hollywoodland is not going to be a limited edition watch. Instead, it will sit as part of the larger Chrono Hawk collection. There will be two versions of the Hollywoodland watch, with one having a darker gray dial (ref.?49970-34-232-BB6A) and the other a lighter dial (ref.?49970-34-132-BB6A). We aren't going to discuss the Chrono Hawk watch at length again, but for more information about the watch read our watches-dealer hands-on Chrono
Just sharing (again).I finished a couple of pretty nice Elgin Trench Watches this week.First one is a 1917 Elgin with 7 jewels, B&B "Royal" gold filled semi-hermetic case with an offset crown (that is huge), original RED 12 dial (no hairlines), spade hands, big 16mm lugs.A few before/after of the case.Second one is a 1914 Elgin with 7 jewels, George Stockwell 9k solid gold case (double hinged), original Elgin military dial (no hairlines), big size 0s, Bund Strap.
I may get some flack for this but why is the jumbo the most coveted royal oak? I know of its horological significance but do people buy this model because of its heritage or because of the way it looks and wears? There may be an impression it may look too plain. For those who currently own this, did its horological value (Genta DNA, etc) outweigh its aesthetics when upon purchasing? Please don't get me wrong. I know this is a FANTASTIC timepiece. Just torn between this or the royal oak chronograph. I fancy the chrono more aesthetically, but I may be missing out on something very important with the 15202.
Any AD recommendations in the West Palm Beach area? I¡¯m headed there for work for the next few days.
