The Volvo Ocean Race is one of the most demanding sporting events in the world. IWC celebrates its role as the Official Timekeeper with the launch of the new Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph ¡°Ocean Racer¡± Special Edition. The Volvo Ocean Race is an around-the-world yacht race held every three years. The current race began this month in Alicante, Spain. Over the next nine months, the crews will battle it out on four oceans taking them to five continents, and they will cover a total of 38,739 nautical miles, or nearly 45,000 statute miles. The longest leg stretches almost 7,800 statute miles from Auckland, New Zealand to Itajai, Brazil. While crossing the Southern Ocean, the yachts will face waves up to 100 feet in height and wind speeds reaching 70 miles per hour ¨C conditions that make this one of sailing¡¯s toughest challenges. The race will finish up in Gothenburg, Sweden in June, 2015.The IWC-partner Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team in action. This contest marks the second time IWC ha
Parmigiani Fleurier has the look of a classic brand. There is something honest about the typographic logo, the often restrained styling, and the simple use of case shape and material quality to set it apart from other brands at first glance. But this is not an old brand. 2016 will see the 20th anniversary of Parmigiani's foundation. So how has a brand gone from a standing start to the release of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 Tourbillon watch ¨C which just so happens to be the world's thinnest automatic flying tourbillon movement ¨C in less than two decades?I think it has something to do with the high standards Michel Parmigiani, the founder of the brand, has set for his creations since day one. This was not a company that was happy to power its timepieces with off-the-shelf engines. The early years of Parmigiani are remembered for the production of in-house calibres, including the two eight-day mechanical and automatic?movements. And if that's not enough to pique your interest in th
Hi guys, this letter is from the heart, and I need lots of help for a major love decision, so to speak, in regard to Omega vs. RolexI am a design consultant engineer that gets work designing medical instruments, tools and medical fixtures by contract. I do design work from home and deliver the new design to my clients. So I’m kind of technical guy and really don’t care much on luxury, so to speak. What I like is good craftsmanship, technical design , machines and good engineering creations. I have the money by saving enough to get myself a nice piece of watch. I love Omega but I also love the Rolex Sub. I am in between Omega Seamaster PO 2201.50.00 or a Rolex Sub two tone SS+18K. Now my heart is telling me to get the Omega Seamaster PO. I have an older Seamaster but I’m getting lost with love when looking at the Omega Seamaster PO 2201.50.00. What should I do? Please help!Che,PS: I'm a big guy, 6'5", use to play basketball and football when in college, and have a 7
A couple weeks ago, I posted about a Lord Elgin I got for $45. The case was alright, but the dial looked pretty good to me.Genejockey proceeded to tell me that it was a Continental and that the one I had had the wrong crystal, an improper redial, with the wrong fonts, wrong Elgin symbol, wrong crosshairs, and the 23 jewels was in the wrong spot. It was also missing the black enamel around the metal part of the dial. Besides that, it was pefect! Here's the offending piece Hey, at least it had the right movement.Well I found a donor on the bay last week. The case was beat up, the crystal was scruffed (so I tracked down a NOS crystalmore on this disaster later), and the dial was so-so.First step, I painted the dial with black enamel. That is easier said than done. As I thought, the donor's enamel was flaking, but it did show the ridges. I tried several times to duplicate this, but to no avail. My solution was to pour the paint on the outer dial and let it flow completely around. I
