2009 Swiss Watch Exports Down 22.3%
The headline on the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry’s report on December, 2009 exports reads “Recovery Confirmed.” This is perhaps a case of news that is less bad being viewed as good. Swiss watch exports for December were down only 7.2% compared with the same month in 2008, though for all of 2009, Swiss watch exports declined 22.3% to 13.2 billion Swiss francs.On the bright side, December followed November as the second month in which the steep declines reflected in the the 12 month moving average leveled off, and December’s single digit decline is perhaps a sign that the fever has broken, though the patient remains in guarded condition at best.Markets that registered growth in December were mainly those in the Far East. China enjoyed a 43.5% increase while Hong Kong was up 27%. The U.S. market’s decline slowed from -21.4% in November to -15.7% in December. Jake Bourdeau, better known as Jake B on the watch forums, has become the biggest name in the international Seiko watch modding community. After the company founder and Jake's mentor Noah Fuller (the creator of the Tsunami watch) died in 2011, Jake has made it his mission to build on Noah's legacy.Right now his company Dagaz Watch Ltd. based in Tsuen Wan, New Territories, Hong Kong is in the middle of preparing the release of the Typhoon, a modern take on one of the most iconic dive watches ever, the Seiko 6105-8110. Fans have been patiently waiting to get their hands on a custom or Classic version of the Typhoon since it was announced in fall of 2012. Vintage 2483R.....
My first fore into the world of vintage Pateks, and I came up with this beauty, a 1950's era RG 2483, with the original Gay Freres band. The prior owner had the watch serviced by Patek last November, and the over all condition is excellent. It has the original dial, though Patek did replace the crown. finding the RG band a little too blingy for my taste, I switched it over to a black shark skin band....A pic with its younger brother:
