SIHH 2012 sees the introduction of a new water-resistant watch inspired by the Memovox Deep Sea: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph featuring a 40.5 mm case size similar to that of the Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea, which was a hit at SIHH 2011. A fixed bezel surrounds a classic black dial, protected by a Plexiglas crystal. The hour-markers as well as the central hour and minute hands are covered by a Superluminova with a warm orange-tinted shade reminiscent of the luminescent coating on the 1959 Memovox Deep Sea. The time intervals measured by the two-button chronograph are indicated by two counters for the hours and minutes, positioned at 9 and 3 o¡¯clock, as well as by the central seconds hand. The back of the stainless steel case also bears the same engraved motif as the historical model, depicting a frogman surrounded by bubbles. ETA to Cease Making Movements for Outside Watch Makers
Watch forums are a buzz over the fact that ETA will be halting all sales of it's movements to outside watch makers in 2010. ETA is a quasi government-owned company that designs and manufactures watch movements. Some of these go directly to its brands (such as Swatch), others are made in kit form and are sold to outside makers who place the movements in their own watches. The majority of decent automatic movements not made "in-house" by a manufacture, are ETAs. ETA also makes quartz movements.The creation of a new movement is a very complex and difficult task. After the years of design, more years are spent with testing and refinement. Even with normal daily variation, a watch movement must be over 99.99% accurate. Hi All, I have more experience on the vintage Rolex side - and wanted to share my first vintage Omega From my research:Omega OT 2620, Rose Gold Tresor, circa 1949.The 265 manual wind movement has an 11.1 mil serial.Stunning on my wrist due to it's 38mm size. About 9 or 10 mm high.Dial has been nicely redone and due to a service approx 2 years ago - it winds very smooth and keeps excellent time.I am intrigued with these 38mm Omegas and want to learn more, maybe looking for another in stainless.Received from Clissold in a very nice transaction a few weeks ago.Thanks for looking!Russ
