Breguet Marie-Antoinette No. 1160 Coming to LA and NYC
Breguet No. 160 generated two of the greatest mysteries in watchmaking: who ordered it, and who stole it? Commissioned by an unknown admirer of Marie-Antoinette in 1783 as a gift for the queen, it was not completed until 1827, 34 years after her death. In 1983 it was stolen from a Jerusalem museum in a daring heist. In 2005, Nicolas G. Hayek, President and CEO of Montres Breguet, commissioned the manufacture to exactly recreate No. 160. The result was No. 1160 – a treasure in its own right, and it’s coming to the USA. No. 1160 (pictured below) was created by the watchmakers and artisans of Montres Breguet using drawings and photographs of the original, and great pains were taken to make the recreation as authentic as possible, down to using tools and materials common in A. Oh boy, my Sub is in the shop and I'm having hot flashes!
I just picked up my Omega 2531.80 Bond Seamaster Pro, it needed only a lube job and a new gasket and repressure testing. In the eight years I've owned this watch my AD has never EVER charged me so much as a nickle to work on it or give it it's yearly spiffing up of the case and band. I've owned my Rolex Sub 4 yrs now (bought from the same AD) and I haven't done anything to it but wear it and try to keep it nice. Well, slight and minor wear marks have crept over the band and parts of the case and I managed to get one tiny ding in the side of the case. Also as it's been used the timing has gotten to about 6sec+ per so I finally broke down and dropped it off for it's first cleaning, bracelet checking and light spiffing up. I also asked if they could get the timing rate down to between 0 and 1.5 sec+ like it was when it was new. I have complete and utter confidence in the Rolex trained watchmaker who will be performing this work but it's weird. I mean it's like having a child in the

Let's hear your horror stories!I'm talking about physical horrors, nothing customer service related.Mine has got to be when I came home from work one day to find that my dog Buddy, a jack-chi, had reached into my watchbox (which lives on my nightstand) and grabbed my Khaki Chrono, pulled it on to my bed, and chewed completely through the strap. Imagine my "OH SH*T" face the moment I walked into my room and saw pieces of strap everywhere, I had figured he had dragged the watch all over the house prior to this, but luckily it turned out he only destroyed the strap!Let's hear yours!
