Info on Wittnauer man's watch request
I'll get a pic up soon, but I just needed some brief info on a recent antique fair find. I spotted a fairly nice looking man's 10kt gold filled round Wittnauer, automatic with center second. I balked on it and my 16 year old son decided to purchase it. I think he did very well on it. I'm unfamiliar with Wittnauers, and was trying to date it and get some general info for him. It has the following markings on the back - 10kt gold filled case, S&W, use all proof wrench, 1200. Is the "S&W" a case manufacturer name? Now, I gathered from the backside of the watch it was not a removable caseback but rather a front loader, and the 1200 is the name/model of the tool used to remove the crystal. I have a claw type crystal remover, but have never worked with it yet. I'm also unsure of how to remove the stem on this watch to remove the movement. Thank you for any assistance,Eric

The Return Of The Son Of Themes: Elgin Automatic Watches
I decided to take a little hiatus in the 'Themes' thing over Christmas. Partly, I had built up a bunch of newly acquired and/or repaired watches that I was dying to wear, and partly because I could. But I thought I'd start up again with one of the things that makes Elgin unique among American watchmakers - US-designed and -built self-winding watches. Bulova did build some of their '23' series of automatics in the US, but my understanding is that they were kind of a joint Swiss/American project. So, let's start with today's watch: the 1951 Elgin 607 "Bumper" automatic!This YGF case, and the two-tone dial, are probably the ones most associated with the Bumpers, but they also came in solid 14k and stainless.The movement (Shamelessly stolen from Joel (441victor) - I haven't opened mine up since it's a screwoff and I don't have the tools)There was nothing novel about the technology by this time, but it was the very first American-made self-winding wristwatch! Why Haven't I Seen This in Ad's Before?
I saw this posted here on TrF actually and I was wondering why I'd never seen it in an AD.I have to admit, its been a while since an Omega has really jumped out at me but this one looks great!Has anyone seen one of these in person? And why aren't they in any of the ADs i've seen?

Rolex Passion Report is now predicting ...
Red lettering and a red gmt hand as a replacement for the green on the otherwise black-bezeled gmt. Possibly with a new movement? It’s somewhat interesting given the reports from some that there is a shortage of Ln.Mods, I’m not sure if it’s worth consolidating Rpr or Basel reports into one thread. I think Rpr (Phillip, I think) has at least a moderately good track record in his predictions enough to mention his latest update. rolexpassionreport
