I now have 3 single winders, and unfortunately needed to experience their customer service with one of them. I can hardly complain, since it was one of their deeply discounted "scratch and dent/demo" models. The cup was loose, and would rub on the case, causing the watch to stop swinging after one swing. I got a very nice and helpful woman on the phone, who said it sounded like a cup assembly problem, and that they'd send me a new cup assembly right away. Well, they did, it arrived very quickly, and the problem seems to be solved!I believe that you can tell the most about a company when something goes wrong. Let's face it, once in a while every company sends out an item that has a problem, particularly if you are buying a demo or "scratch and dent" item. E-bay bargain Elgin 630
I've been paying more attention to American vintage watches on Ebay since I've been reading past posts on this forum. I just received this project watch through the mail and wasn't sure what I was getting. The case is solid stainless steel and the movement is labeled 630. I understand that, based on an earlier post, the movement is based on an other Elgin design but manufactured in Switzerland. There is much work to do but the price was more than fair; The seconds hand shakes too much, sort of like the way a Chameleon shimmies across a tree branch, the dial is borderline and one of the lugs is partially unsoldered. my 60th birthday present to myself
I've wanted one for a while. In fact when I bought a new rolex a year ago I nearly bought one but I needed an everyday watch for work and I'm afraid rolex have always been my choice for that, I never take them off.However I'd always had datejusts which multi task nicely, but now I have a sub as I can see the hands without my reading glasses. I think the chunkyness of the sub has kept me wanting something rather more elegant and almost a year to the day after buying the sub I bought this.Funnily enough the contrast is so good I can easily tell the time and even the date without glasses.
