Blancpain Introduces Saint Valentin Ladies’ Watch
With the 2012 holiday season behind us, Blancpain is already looking ahead to Valentine’s Day, with the debut of its new Saint Valentin 2013 limited-edition watch, a ladies’ model with a mother-of-pearl dial and diamond-bedecked bezel. The Blancpain Saint Valentin 2013 uses the iconic imagery of the heart ¡ª universal symbol of romantic love and of the watch’s namesake saint ¡ª as its primary motif. The base of the watch’s dial is white mother-of-pearl, and the hour markers are diamonds. The dial is enhanced with five red-lacquered, mother-of-pearl marquetry hearts, the largest of which surrounds the date window at 3 o’clock. The counterweight of the slender, central seconds hand takes the shape of the Blancpain “JB” (initials of founder Jehan-Jacques Blancpain) logo. The 34-mm stainless steel case features a bezel set with two rows of full cut-diamonds, and the case middle also sports five red hearts, here made of liquid ceramic. To make these

New watch for vacation
I am heading down to Mexico for 15 days next week so I decided to pick up a new time piece for my trip. When I head down south, I like to stay at small, family run hotels and travel around in rental cars or public transportation. In the past, I would only wear my digital Timex Ironman and leave my more expensive watches at home. But this year I wanted something a bit more sophisticated on my wrist yet not draw too much attention from anyone looking to rob a gringo. After an afternoon of searching, I picked up what I think is the perfect vacation watch: The Swiss Military Nomad LED Compass. It is functional and surprisingly stylish. First Breitling..Questions
I am looking at purchasing my first Breitling, I have multiple Rolex and Omegas but no Breitlings. Consequently I know squat about the models. I am looking for a daily wearer, stainless steel, date, around 40mm in size. A quartz model will do. I've been thinking about a Colt Quartz II, I think the model # was A74380. Is this a current model and what is its reputation. Any thoughts appreciated.

So, I am sure that most of you are aware of the December 15 auction to take place at Christies in NYC (.christies/salelanding...ntSaleID=25971 ). Of course, I fully understand that the die hard fans are worried that this type of sale will keep driving the prices up further, and thus will make more and more of these pieces out of our reach (i.e., the true fans who do not have unlimited means), but this is in my opinion a fact of life resulting from the general public having more and more access to expert information via blogs, forums etc. The people who were lucky enough to buy watches at a bargain price a few years/months ago should just feel that, LUCKY, and newcomers like myself will just keep hoping that the prices will remain reasonable for a bit longer and that true fans and enthusiasts will be able to enjoy nice pieces not only because they can simply afford them, but because they enjoy them for what they represent in terms of history and mechanical prowess in watchmaking.
