Went into London to enquire about buying a Speedy Pro this lunchtime
..and came away ordering a Planet Ocean!!!! (45.5mm Black with White numerals on Bracelet)Gotta wait approx 3 weeks for it as the AD is having to order it in for me (only had the smaller size in the colour I wanted or the Big size with Orange numerals).I don't mind as the assistant gave me a ¡ê200 discount (which I figured wasn't too bad for a large jeweller in London, and with it not being a display model)All in all I am a very happy man!

Found a Longines Admiral among my grandfather's effects... Couple of questions
Hi,I was looking through a trunk sitting the basement with my grandfather's effects. Surprisingly, I found a Longines Admiral automatic. As soon as I moved it around a little, it started right up. I looks to be in great shape, just needs to be cleaned up a bit, except for a crack in the crystal.Here's few pictures. The back of the case says "Longines-waterproof-anti-magnetic, shock-absorber-Swiss Made"Any ballpark ideas of when it was made? I'm guessing the late 60s. Also, any recommendations as to where I could get this watch professionally refurbished? Even if it isn't a noteworthy watch, it looks pretty cool to me, plus there's the sentimental aspect. The case itself looks like it could just be buffed and the dial still looks pristine, but the crystal needs to replaced.Oh, and could the current crystal be replaced with a sapphire crystal?Thanks!

Horology 101 - escapement
The escapement is the brain of a watch and it's precision greatly affects the watch's time keeping ability. While it's motion would appear to be just another step in a linear progression, it is actually the hub of a cyclic action where each piece affects the entire mechanism's rate of motion. The escape wheel is named for it's function - it allows a patterned escape of energy from the mainspring.The escapement's job boils down to these 2 functions: - It releases the energy passed to it via the mainspring and wheel train at a regular rate. This energy drives the hands and all of the watch's functions. - It uses this energy to power the balance wheel's oscillations by giving the roller jewel a nudge each time it swings by the end of the pallet fork.Click HERE to see an animation of the escape wheel interacting with the pallet jewels.The timekeeping will remain consistent (called "isochronism") as long as the power is sufficient to keep the balance & hairspring assembly oscillating

I feel like the Omega section doesn't get nearly the love it deserves. So I figure, start posting some pics. Build it up a bit with some watch eye candy. Wearing my AT today. I put it on an OEM rubber strap with white stitching. I really like this watch a lot.
