The 2497 is considered one of the finest and most elegant watches made by the house of Patek – it is a perpetual calendar dating to the 1950s. The last time we mentioned a 2497 on HODINKEE was when we saw a spectacular example from the collection of a Mr. Jason Singer in this episode of Talking Watches. 2 OF 103 OF 10 This particular example is special because it is in wonderful condition and one of the few pieces made not in yellow gold, but in rose. I damaged my 145022 within hours of purchase..
Caught the speedy bug and decided to have one. Lucky enough to find 1 in our local watch forum, but my silly carelessness ruined the watch. Water vapour starts forming within minutes of washing the bracelet. To remedy, i used a hair dryer from a distance and what happened next, the plexi glass fell off.How silly am i?And out of the sudden, the second hand started to fly, it moves so fast, faster then Carl running 100m. OMG

Just wondering if a seperate 'Topic Box' is required, solelyfor the discussion of Rolexes as commodities for investment?The subject, whilst mildly interesting, seems to be causing a little, perhaps, unnecessary friction.Perhaps we could let those that want to, sit in a seperate room and count their gold.

Rolex LVC with Thomas Jefferson's gold pocket watch.Jefferson, the 3rd President, is also a connoisseur of pocket watches. He owned a gold pocket watch made by Daniel Vaucher, a Paris-based watchmaker. Jefferson is thought to have acquired the watch while on a trip to the French city. He later gave this watch to James Monroe, the 5th President. The watch can now be found at the James Monroe Museum in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
