I have been getting more interested in American watches lately (as result of the recent competition between Omega and Hamilton on the forums ) Hamiltons have appealed to me for a while, perhaps there is some inner soul to the essence of their watches. You know, like with Omega Anyway I thought I would join the Hamilton club. I consulted Dennis about the requirements and told him I was going to be picking up a nice Boulton with a minty looking dial. He responded with, "You can't be serious, they will never let you in with just that." I was puzzled, but Dennis explained that he himself was kicked out the Hamilton club for, "Not being serious and other high crimes" Continuing on he added that Hamiltonians were a strange bunch and required real commitment to the cult, as he called it. He tried to dissuade me further and even offered to pay for my Omega tattoo. I told him I felt a calling, that I believe that Omegans and Hamiltonians can prowl eBay together with shared conquests of NOS BI
Discoveries & Inventions that made the Quartz Watch possibleIn 1880, Marie Curie's husband Pierre and his brother Jacques discovered the piezoelectric effect. The two men found that when pressure is applied to certain materials like topaz, quartz, and cane sugar (among others) they generate electricity. The following year Gabrielle Lippmann observed that the reverse works as well - when an electric current is applied to these elements it would cause them to vibrate. Quartz is one of the best of these materials for scientific and industrial use since it is abundant and inexpensive, being made of the same elements as sand (silicone dioxide). It remains in crystal form to high temperatures, is immune to most chemical solvents, and vibrates at a consistent rate with relatively low current applied to it. The crystals used in watches are usually cut into the shape of a squared off tuning fork. As long as they are the same length-to-width ratio they will resonate at the same 32,768
Hello TrfLast weekend I went to Rome and came home with a brand new PP5711, which was all good, almost. Problem is that I during some sightseeing came by a local AP boutique and ventured inside. The service was pleasant and very service minded. I tried a couple of nice watches but it was not until I tried the ROO Lightning struck ;-)I have never had the watch on my radar being 44mm and way to large. But I'm a semi-big guy just above 100kg and when viewed in the mirror it looked perfect. Now I'm giving hard thought flipping my gold GMT and date just II, adding a little cash and getting a rose gold ROO. After seeing the AP live my gold GMT feels cheap and the finish seems dull. Nobody where I live knows AP and I like that. How do you think the ROO in rose gold will hold up as a daily driver, office-work? I'm thinking the more scratch resistant bezel will help reducing daily tear. I like the thought of having a really nice daily driver and not just something I put on on occasion. RegardsA
