6426 - Restoration Advice Sought
Hi folks. I was going through my junk watch drawer and came across the watch I bought back in 1989 shortly after moving to Hong Kong. If I remember correctly, I paid about US$100 for it.As you can see, at some stage there was a very half-assed refinishing of the dial. I always suspected that it was a fake but when having the crystal changed at a watchmaker back in the early 90's, he mentioned that the watch is real, but that the dial was re-finished and the oyster band that was on the watch at the time is an aftermarket one. I think the hands may be incorrect as well. The crown looks a like it could be wrong, too.For the first time in ages I wound up the watch and wouldn't you know it, it runs like a charm.The watch is a bit small for my tastes, but I think it would make a nice gift for my son who is 7 years old for him to wear when going to church or on special occasions.What is the possibility of getting a NOS proper dial and bracelet for this watch? I've been wanting a PAM for quite a long time and my piggybank is quite full and I'm FINALLY going to get a PAM in the next few weeks! I've been looking and reading this forum section for a LONG time and thanks to you gents, I've learned quite a bit.As it will be my first, I'm leaning heavy towards the 111. But I'm also looking at the 177, too.Thoughts?

Seamaster Professional case backseal
Just wondering what the position is re the case back seal. I have had the back off to regulate my SMP and would like to know if I need to exchange the o-ring for a new one each time the case back is removed? Got it running to within a second or two a day and the same over the course of a week with the occasional winder down position over night.I am not planning on diving, perhaps the occasional holiday swim. I have tightened up the case back with reasonable force, just seeking opinions before getting wet!Is it also worth changing the stem seal(s), is this a DIY job? If so does one release the stem with the winder in the winding or adjusting position? I assume there is some sort of detent spring that releases the stem. Does it simply re-insert? Am I out of my league and should I just give it to an AD.Also seem to be having a little trouble finding a OEM case seal in the UK (case ref 168.1622) by searching the web, are these seals fairly universal or do I need a genuine Omega one?

HiAs a reponse to my other post someone mentioned Speedmaster , so I went to look.Firstly , in Prague , where I am currently living , the biggest AD has very limited selection on display but can order everything from catalogueThey had the Speedmaster and the limited edition version ( identical except for the red second hand and silver insert at 9 position)I just read all the reviews here and the only issue seems to be the price. They are asking for a 12% premium for the LE , offering 5% discount , and I have the chance to get VAT back of 20% ( flying to Switzerland in a few weeks so I can get the stamp at customs and the AD will refund me upon presentation of stamped docs). Net price is GBP 2650 /USD 4000.For the 12% I think its worth.... personally I like the watch with that silver insert ,so its not just about the LE issue.Is there anything I should be concerned about , or anything I should look out for when laying out the cash ? Its my first proper watch so I thought I will ask just
