Today I will be flying to Geneva to learn how to make a watch and one of you is joining me. If you recall, back in December 2012, our monthly giveaway was for either a Frederique Constant (or Alpina) watch, and the grand prize was a trip to Geneva to build your own watch and take it home with you. Well, now our grand prize giveaway winner, Mr. Andrew E. and I will be fulfilling the experience at the headquarters of Frederique Constant this week.This will be the first time either of us will build a watch. Frederique Constant boasts some nice in-house designed and produced movements, and we will get guidance from their top watch makers. Usually when big brands present co-branded watches, whether with fictional crime-fighting superheroes or prominent aviation firms, there tends to be a what is perhaps a fair amount?of eye-rolling on the part of watch enthusiasts. Help with a Hamilton PW I just bought
Hello, first post! I just bought a Hamilton Pocket Watch and need some assistance in identifying it and finding out how to set it. Here are some pictures. It is not the prettiest, but I love the patina and the wear of it. I was told that based on the serial number it was made in 1898.IMG_3460.jpgIMG_3462.jpgIMG_3463.jpgIMG_3464.jpgIMG_3465.jpgIn one picture there is a piece of metal under the screw that moves back and forth, I thought it was the set lever, but moving it does not affect the stem. I can wind the watch, but the stem does not pull out. I was going to wait for it to stop and then wait until time matches whatever the watch says and wind it up.Thanks!George

How often do you wear your Rolex?
I'm a watch addict. I'm also a perfectionist. Scratches and dings bug me. It is impossible not to bump your wrist during our busy lifestyles. So I keep my favorite Rolex tucked away for special occasions. When I put it on it is always perfect. No scratches or dings. Fortunately I have a fair number of special occasions so it gets used monthly. I own a number of other (non-Rolex) watches that I alternate and maintain at the local watchmaker. He loves my business because I keep the other watches polished and replace crystals as needed. Taking three watches in tomorrow for the usual repairs. My last two Rolex watches went to the AD for service multiple times for scratches before I sold them and purchased a new gold 116233. Am I alone or are there others that feel the same way?Thanks!
