IWC 5004 - 07 wrist watches news:
The end of Baselworld is like coming down off a really brutal high. The intense energy of the show is only matched by how busy you are. Nights are filled with long European style dinners that take forever, but go by quickly as the conversation is engaging. Watch lovers can be themselves - this is our week. And even though the show is that long, you can only manage to see a fraction of the exhibiting brands. New things come at you around each corner, and items you¡¯ve only seen as computer renderings come to life. The best part is by far the people; the gossip, the laughs, and thankfully this year ¡ª the optimism.¡°More orders than last year¡± seems to be a sober but enthusiastic claim made across the board. Few brands leave without smiles on their faces, while the major brands are all celebrating due to increased sales in key markets. If retailers are buying watches then it means they have a pretty good reason to think they can sell them. It will still take a year or two before many US ret
Ball Watch Co. has an interesting history that dates back to the late 1800's. Following a train wreck in 1891, Webb C. Ball, then a prominent jeweler in Cleveland, Ohio, was appointed Chief Time Inspector of the railways. He implemented Standard Time for all railways (a relatively new concept) as well as rigorous checks and requirements for railway employees. For more info, check our brand highlight. The current incarnation of the brand manufactures watches in Switzerland, using ETA/Selitta movements and a handful of technologies that set them apart. Their watches are all designed with the maxim "Accuracy Under Adverse Conditions" at their heart, which is noticeable in their testing for shock resistance and anti-magnetism. Perhaps their most well-known feature, however, is their use of tritium tubes for luminescence. While they are one of many that do, they are perhaps the most high-end, with the most varied designs. The current entry point for a Ball watch teeters around $1500, which is
Although I've never been a "watch person", I recently became interested in '40s Hamilton wrist watches, so here I am.I picked one up on fleabay (a Hayden) and I was immediately hooked. Maybe it was the hours I watched my father work on pocket watches when I was a kid. Now at the age of 50, I wish I had paid more attention back then. I've got a couple of "beater" movements coming for practice and spare parts and, with a bit of help, I hope to learn to work on them. I also acquired a copy of "Practical Watch Repairing" by Donald de Carle. Unfortunately, it seems that information on the nuts and boltsof working on these pieces for someone on an "independent study" program like mine is a bit hard to come by these days. At least there are still resources like the members on this site. We'll see how this works out.If anyone has advice or can point me at other sources of info I would greatly appreciate it.In the meantime, thanks in advance and I hope that one day I can contribute to the pool o

Hi all, this is my first post here. I've been looking for a new watch and recently came across Swiss Military Watch and Charmex (CX) Swiss Military Watch. Originally, I thought maybe they were the same brand but their logos are pretty different so I started looking around. They're two different companies in Switzerland. How do they stack up against each other? Their pricing seems to be similar, the CX Swiss Military Watch models may be a little higher but that doesn't necessarily mean they're better. I'm leaning towards Swiss Military Watch just because they're a little more simplified and that's what I like. What do you guys think? Now, I know of 4 brands that use the term "Swiss Military." It's getting awfully confusing...-Wenger Swiss Military-Swiss Military Hanowa-Swiss Military Watch-Charmex (CX) Swiss Military Watch
