Contributed by Sheldon K. SmithAn evolving category in the watch market are replacement aftermarket products not intended to mimic the original, but rather to improve or change the way the watch looks and feels. One of those companies entering into this category is Everest Horology. On August 10th, 2012 ?Everest Band releases the EH-1, a medical-grade silicone strap designed specifically for Rolex sport watches including the Explorer II, Submariner, DeepSea, and GMT. Unlike most other replacement straps, the Everest EH-1 is designed to fit the Rolex watch head exactly with a fit very similar to Rolex¡¯s original Oyster bracelet.Everest Horology is not the first company to manufacture a replacement silicone strap for Rolex. Another company, RubberB has been producing silicone Rolex replacement straps for almost two years and it is easy to make comparisons between the two because they both have a penchant for detail and quality. Although Everest Horology and RubberB straps look similar,
Dropping by the Audemars Piguet lounge at Art Basel this week, we just had to see what the man in charge, CEO Francois Bennahmias, had on his wrist. While he could be sporting something much more complicated or over-the-top, we caught glimpses of something much more understated from under Bennahmias' cuff. It turns out he was wearing the Royal Oak Extra-Thin Tourbillon, a piece that combines the history of the Royal Oak and the robustness of a true sport watch with the complexity of an ultra-thin tourbillon, perfectly encapsulating what makes Audemars Piguet so interesting today. 2 OF 5 Audemars Piguet is in its second year of sponsorship with Art Basel, the world's leading fair for high-end contemporary art, that, funnily enough, takes place in the very same exhibition halls as Baselworld. While I'll admit it was a bit strange walking through the familiar buildings looking at paintings and sculptures instead of the usual horological curiosities, Audemars Pigu
Hey guys!I've been working on these four watches this weekend and all four happen to be on the bench at the same time next to each other. It came to me that this would make for a VERY NICE group photo shot so I broke out the camera! Testing is just about done on them and final assemblies will be finished this week on a couple of them. Now this is what I call an all star line-up ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !The first one is a 1936 Waltham, 21 jewel Riverside, size 3/0s.Second one is an 1914 Elgin, 15 jewels, size 3/0s.Third one is a 1911 Elgin, 17 jewels, was a size 0s but has been customized down to a size 3/0s.Fourth one is simply the best size 3/0s Elgin ever manufactured! It's a 1915 Elgin with 17 jewels! They only made 500 of this grade 423 movement and this is the 285th one manufactured. Very rare with lots of solid gold parts! Out of the 500 that were made 3 of them have come across my bench now, including number 19! The vertical demaskeen patern is just insane!!! My Holy Grail would be
There are a lot of Is It Safe to wear your Rolex questions here on TRF. By sharing our common, and not so common, experiences we can save each other time wondering... Is it Safe Please post your experiments and show pictures/proof if It Was Safe or It Was Not Safe while wearing your Rolex. I'll Start: Having a few beers at Stone Brewery last night and I went to the restroom. I washed my hands and no towels! I saw the air dry machines and thought, Is It Safe to use this machine while wearing a DD? Conclusion: Yes, It Is Safe!
Because of this forum, I caught the 16710 bug like so many others. I decided to zero in on one with SELs and lug holes, and after much searching, was fortunate to come across a great deal on this beautiful K-serial. It's in great condition, but the bezel did have just a few marks on it. I went to Dallas RSC over lunch one day and they put on a new bezel (old one had a small dent that would make installing and removing an insert difficult) and new Pepsi bezel insert as well. I absolutely couldn't be happier, this watch is everything I thought it would be and more. I can completely see why many think this is one of the best references in the Rolex lineup.Hard to imagine this one coming off the wrist anytime soon.
