Confused about which watch to purchase. Help Please!
Good Evening, I need help in choosing which watch to purchase. I am relatively young but I enjoy watches. I know I am posting this in a Omega Forum but I just really want some honest advice. I am choosing between Omega, Tag and this company I just heard of today called Oris. Never really heard of it before but seems okay. I am willing to spend upward to 2000.00 but don't really want to go over that price at this point. Currently I own a Rolex Submariner and I do like the watch a lot I am just into getting a new watch.What I am looking for however is a larger face to a watch, thickness doesn't really matter but I would like a bigger face than the Submariner. Also Chrono isn't really a big issue for me, I just want a very nice watch. The ones I looked at were the Omega Planet Ocean and Seamaster, which both are really nice watches. Tag on the other hand has very good styles and looks on there watch, other than that I don't really know much about the company and Oris I just heard of toda

Watch Cleaning and Repair Costs
As I mentioned on another thread, I used to collect pocket watches, about 20 years ago. I lived in a neighborhood that still had a couple old-fashioned family jewellers, with a watchmaker on the premises. The one I went to had been trained in the Army during WWII, so he knew the Hamilton watches I brought him like the back of his hand. He charged $50 for a 'cleaning' - disassembly, cleaning, reassembly and timing. Balance staff replacement added $25 to the total. What a deal!Of course, he was pretty old back then, and even if he were still alive, he'd be about 90!Since I started getting into vintage wristwatches, I've searched in vain for somebody like that, but I think they're extinct - neighborhood watchmakers. I've looked on the Internet, with Yelp and the other local business search engines, and it seems like there's this yawning chasm between 'battery changers' on the one hand, and high-end, Swiss-trained folks fixing watches that retail for several thousand dollars.One of th
