The Idiot's Allure Of The Rolex Daytona Watch
This is not a technical article or about any new watch release. Instead, this is about a look - a good look, but a look that you don't need to be a watch lover to understand or appreciate. It isn't just a look, it is part of watch fashion psychology, and something that draws people some refer to as that "accessory on your wrist." In fact, the reason why I used the term "idiot's allure," to describe the concept is because someone who knows nothing about watches will be attracted to this type of design. I am using the Rolex Cosmograph Oyster Perpetual Daytona watch (last time I will use this ludicrously long name for the timepiece). Now, you aren't an idiot for liking these Rolex Daytona styles, but it doesn't take a special person "in the know" to appreciate the look. The only difference is that people like you and me perhaps enjoy these watches for different reasons.Why is this even a question you ask? Who cares? Problems with IWC service centre
I need to share my anger and frustration about buying my dream watch. IWC portuguese yacht club. Beautiful to look at and wear,in the limited time we have had together. I bought this watch new from an independent watch dealer with a long established good reputation,this is nothing about them. One condition of buying the watch was that the slightly off centre red sweep second hand be realigned. I can only assume it left the factory like this. Not a good start. Two weeks approx after receiving watch back from service the red seconds hand wouldn"t reset to zero. Coming to rest at a 2 seconds advanced position. At this point I started to look at my watch with a lume and found the dial to be contaminated with dust,a white piece of debris was also stuck to the dial on the outer chapter ring the minute finger had 2 scratches across it and a small hair/fibre was stuck to the inside of the crystal. Watch went back to place of purchase and they sent it on to IWC. Got my now clean and working pro

A Question of Quality
Hi,I've not really been into watches until the last year or so and have recently been looking at other brands outside of Rolex.Not to buy, as I cannot afford one. It took me 4 years to save up for a Rolex Sub. So it's just out of interest and to know more about other brands/models etcI have a lot of respect for AP and like the way the majority of them look. But there is one thing I don't understand and that is why are they so expensive?To be straight, I have never held one in real life. But on just about every picture I have ever seen, they look nowehre near as well finished as a Rolex. The main part being the face, the face always looks 'cheap'. There are some that are over 10,000 Euro and look great. But they look to have the build and finish of an average 500 Euro Tissot or something.What am I missing? Educate me please :)p.s. The nicest watch I have ever seen and love is one of the AP Grande Complications! So I am in no way an 'AP hater' or something.
