Oh my, where the heck have I been. Even the long lost Jocke is here too. Thank you to the mystery person who told me about the secret club....
I have seen a few watches like this listed on eBay recently:cgi.ebay/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=200391963400Having a look at the dial I could only see "Record" on it, no mention of Longines. Why was it being called a Longines, then?It seems that Record was founded in 1903. Longines acquired Record in 1961 but the company did not survive the quartz crisis and was wound up in 1991. After buying Record, some watches were branded as Longines-Record and some Record calibres were renamed as Longines calibres. It seems that some sellers will list Record watches as Longines products to increase the price. But in reality Record remained an independent company that was owned by Longines.
I recently returned from a trip to the caribbean, where I purchased a nice timepiece. While filling out the customs form on the way back to the states I read that "an $800 duty-free exemption is normally allowed". It wasn't an issue because the watch I purchased was only $600. But, since I was looking forward to purchasing a more expensive piece on my next trip, it made me wonder, "What does this mean?"What happens if the item(s) total more more than $800?Why does it say "normally" a limit of $800?I'd appreciate it if anyone could shed light on this for me.Thanks,JB
Just sharing some macro/close-up shots I took this morning. Happy a Happy Easter!
