Lieutenant Philip Mitchell Niederaur's WWI Elgin Trench Watch
I bought this WWI Elgin Officer's Trench Watch from 1917 a couple of days ago. The case back has an inscription that peeked my interest so I did several hours of reasearch to find out who he was and what he did, I hit the jackpot! This watch belonged to Lieutanant Philip Mitchell Niederaur of Bryan, Ohio. The Lieutenant did not die in WWI, he lived a very long life and died at the age of 98 in 1991. I was able to find a large portion of his United States Naval Reserve Force records (these are not easy to find, I got very lucky!). I'll post his service record at the bottom of this thread.Now for the watch !This is a 1917 Elgin Trench Watch with a 7 jewel movement, serial number 20377133, grade 417, size 3/0s. The movement was not running when it arrived but I have it purring like a kitten already. This watch has a couple of interesting points.
