Just a few weeks ago, I reviewed the Melbourne Portsea, which was a really strong new model from the young brand. It was a clever twist on a classic style with plenty of unique details. Well, now Melbourne is back with the launch of their newest watch, the Avalon, via Kickstarter. Their fifth watch release to date, the Avalon is a departure from the brand's previous designs. Rather than a take on a more subdued or dress style, this watch is a large, aggressive pilot in full black DLC. But in true Melbourne style, they took a unique approach that makes it thoroughly their own.The case of the Avalon is unabashedly large at 45 x 53.7mm, but surprisingly flat at 11mm. With the wide 24mm lugs, it looks and feels broad and masculine, and is best worn on larger wrists for it. The case design immediately says "pilot" but has some details that make it different from the herd. First, the lugs are faceted with a wide bevel on the side and front. Tired of all the usual Benrus this and Elgin that? Here's a unique little Waltham to liven things up.I've never seen a hooded lug case design where the strap attached to the back. Makes a smart looking home for a 1936 grade 887 movement.Don't always believe the inscription date. 1916? Might be a birth date. Was it popular to celebrate 20th birthdays in the 30s?Case not marked Waltham but it amost has to be original to this movement.Need to find the right strap to fit and commplement this style.Joel

Help with some information on a vintage Seamaster a buddy wants to sell me
Good morning everyone! I'm in need of a bit of help, I think I'd like to buy a vintage Omega Seamaster from a friend but I can't seem to google exactly the information I'm looking for to make a wise decision. It's running but of course not real well, and the face is pretty grungy. Well without further ado ... Here he is: I really like the watch. I'm assuming it's a calibre 354 and then the serial number will somehow date it. I'm used to Rolex, so much easier to date and research. I'll certainly get rid of the speidel band ..... lol, or does that make the watch? Thanks for any help I can get. I just love these old pieces. Needless to say: it was a moment in time. Help with vintage Omega Constellation please?
Hello all,I'm a Rolex guy generally, but just inherited the pictured gold Omega from my grandfather, who apparently bought it in the UK in the 1940s or 1950s. It works but needs a service. Can anyone tell me any information about year of manufacture and current price please (for insurance).Much obliged,James
