What are your OPINIONS on watch values?
What watch brands (and models) hold their values the best (your opinion only)? Both over the short and long term.This is an opinion based question. I know how much people here dislike talking values, (i have no clue why), to me that is part of the fun of watches...What brands plummet and never regain value the moment they leave the store?I will give my novice opinion. I think the Rolex President P or G(2nd hand) or Sub is one of the best values in watches. I dont care for rolex, but that watch seems to be a great value. UN seems to drop significantly (new or used). A while back I became very interested in the independent watches, and I tried to learn about the different watchmakers and what they were building. I learned about Daniel Roth and about his history as a watchmaker. I was very impressed with his credentials and life experiences. I was also impressed with the Jean Daniel Nicolas Two Minute Tourbillon he was building. I read about Daniel`s philosophy and how he was going out of his way to build a watch that was special. The tourbillon takes 2 minutes to make one complete revolution, there are pointers at either end of the tourbillon to count the seconds. The watch beats at 18,000 VPH, not because it`s easy but because it`s hard. Daniel says that he wants to be able to see the watch beat. I didn't think i had big fingers until i tried to wind this Speedmaster Pro. Have you ever seen a helper tool, or should i just hand it to my DW and ask her to wind it like i've been?

Would you accept a "brand new" patek 5990 with these scratches?
Geneva hand selected A 5990 for me and it came in. The entire reason for them to hand select one for me was to make sure I had no problems with the watch that I have previously had. But bad news before it even got to me. HSWA said that the watch had some scratches on it. HSWA NY received it, saw some scratches through the plastic sealed bag and opened it to give it some extra QC before sending it to me. Keep in mind, this 4th replacement 5990 I am receiving was hand selected special for me, unlike the others that were just sent to me without any extra QC from Geneva. HSWA NY noticed before taking the watch out of the sealed package that there is one deep scratch by the clasp which I can feel with my nail, its deep... and other lighter scratches around the clasp area. They sent me pictures.HSWA NY sent the watch to me so I could personally inspect it to see if I could live with it. Otherwise I can send it back no questions asked.
