Audemars Piguet “Time to Give” Auction
Audemars Piguet teamed with A-List celebrities to raise funds for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS at the “Time to Give¡± auction in New York City. The event is a collaboration between AP and the Tony Awards. The highlight of the evening was a live auction of 13 celebrity-autographed timepieces. Signatures from Meryl Streep, Vanessa Williams, Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson and others brought $816,000 for the cause. A Royal Oak Offshore Las Vegas Strip signed by Jay Z was the evening’s top seller, bringing $220,000. Meryl Streep’s AP brought $100,000, and a piece signed by Catherine Zeta Jones drew a bid of $80,000. Other celebrities participating this year include Kelsey Grammer, Liev Schreiber, Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Lane, and Antonio Banderas.Here are a few scenes from the evening, which can be enlarged with a click. Introducing The Blancpain Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback AND The New High-Beat Caliber F385 (Which Might Actually Be The Real Story Here)
This year at BaselWorld, Blancpain followed up last year's Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe (HODINKEE "A Week On The Wrist" review here) with a chronograph in a similar form. That's cool and all, but to me the most interesting aspect of this watch is not the available fully ceramic case, or the NATO with ridiculously hardcore hardware, or the general sleekness of the end product. Nay – the most interesting part of this new Bathyscaphe is actually what's inside. This is the first Blancpain to feature the brand new caliber F385, which is a ground-up new concept for them and a fairly impressive new development that doesn't seem to have gotten a lot of attention. Matching up my SMPc and Casio divers
Just purchased a Casio and was excited it shared so many similarities to my SMPc (red second hand, round/rectangular hour markers, brushed and polished case, rubber strap, water dwelling animal engraving, ect...) I have a collection of different straps for the SMPc and decided to get some for the Casio, too. Now I can have the desired look I want for those activities that are not appropriate for an expensive watch.
