Hi there I am brand new to thisMy husband is about to turn 40 and has expressed a wish for an omega sea master. Do you think I should be looking at new ( expensive but lovely) or looking for a vintage 1972 version as this is the year of his birth. What are the implications of this?? Is it a good year for sea masters?? Totally out of my depth and I really want to make it a special much loved gift. Thought s / afvice hugely appreciated x jules

Delved into the world of Panerai
Hi guys...I've just bought my first Panerai (well, placed the order...for delivery 3rd week of September) on a PAM 00297. I looked at the 1950's flyback PAM 00212, but it was a bit out of my budget, plus I've been eyeing up the 297 for a while.What are your opinions on this model, do you think I made a good choice? I'm new to luxury watches, and it's a bug I'm afraid might take me over :D. I'm already hovering around a couple of Grahams too.

Illinois Rockcliffe
This is my newest. I've always liked the Rockcliffe. It's relatively large for the period, somewhere between the Hamilton Langley and Gladstone (it shares a 19mm interlug width with the latter, but fortunately doesn't take female spring bars). I find unusually attractive the curve of the inner bezel in contrast to the straighter edges of the case. Which Illinois besides the Rockcliffe and Consul was offered only in solid gold? I'm having a mental block.I haven't yet opened the case back, but it has the rectangular cal. 207 17J movement.Here are some pics. Ostrich strap, in case any were wondering. And I've since changed the upper spring bar, so that it doesn't stick out.

Post up your wire lug watches
Lately I'm getting more interested in (pre 1930) wire lug watches. Also sold some art deco's to save up for them. The war and pre-war wire lugs tend to be way more expensive than the early 20s watches. Adding the possibility it could have been in a trench adds value I guess :P Also the "lady" sizes are very payable. I have a very small wrist so 30 to 32mm don't look that bad on me. So post up info or pics! Very interested with what you'll come up with!

Rolex or Breitling (quality)
Rolex or Breitling ? (quality)I know Rolex is something like status symbol, and is considered higher than Breitling. But i was wondering if in the terms of pure quality (without looking on prestige) is Rolex better. Movement, finishing, bracelet quality, etc. If you compare for example the Yacht Master with platinum bezel or the Submariner with the new Breitling Galactic SleekT Unitime (the whole new model, with tungsten carbide bezel) or any other B with in house movement. Which is better? Are Rolex movements better then Breitling in house movements? I read that Panerai, for example doesnt have very high quality in house movements, bacause they are not making them for long time and they need to practise. Is it same with Breitling?
