3 New Jaquet Droz Watches for China’s Year of the Horse
As Americans mark the start of 2014, China celebrates the Year of the Horse, the seventh sign in the Chinese Zodiac. To commemorate it, Jaquet Droz, a watch brand long associated with China, is releasing a series of Ateliers d’Art timepieces with artistic dials.Each of the three new Jaquet Droz watches features at least one of three highly complex artistic decorative technique on its dial: engraving, painting and grand feu enamel. All are from Jaquet Droz’s Petite Heure Minute collection, with hours and minutes indicated on an off-center subdial.The smallest of the new watches, the Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute 39 mm (U.S. price: $30,500), has an ivory grand feu enamel dial with miniature paintings of two Arab thoroughbreds ¡ª considered by many to be the most beautiful horses in the world ¡ª in full gallop.The largest watch, the Petite Heure Minute 43 mm ($57,800), features a bas-relief sculptural illustration of a wild mustang, a horse native to the American northwest, in

F.P. Journe Young Talent Competition Brings International Watchmaking Students To Baselworld
Last week, the Acad¨¦mie Horlogere des Cr¨¦ateurs Ind¨¦pendants (AHCI) announced the winners of the 2016 F.P. Journe Young Talent Competition. Seamaster 300MC: A few more thoughts....
Although the watch is thick, it wears well. I was concerned the height would prevent this watch from easily sliding underneath the cuff of my dress shirts, but that has not been the case. And, the bracelet and clasp I initially believed to be heavy and bulky are, in fact, the perfect counterweight to the watch case. I have 6.5” wrists, and I don’t think the 300MC is too much:What amazes me most, however, is the timekeeping. Sure, we could all have a watch more accurate than any mechanical on the market if we simply bought a Quartz. And, my Rolex DateJust I and Sub 114060 are both within COSC specifications. This Omega, however, is something different altogether. Over the past three days of wearing the watch, I cannot discern that it has lost or gained a second.
