One of the first things you learn to do when you become a well-trained watch enthusiast is to say, when you first look at a watch, “yes, but is it an in-house movement?” Arguments about what the term means, about whether any given movement should be called in-house, and whether it is any help at all to worry about it, have been going on for as long as I can remember, and I can remember arguing about it on Usenet Newsgroups in the 1990s. It is at first glance – it seems at first glance – a great way to tell the good from the merely okay. If a watchmaking firm makes its own movements, that says something, the thinking goes: a greater commitment to craft; more distinctive design; a more exclusive (whatever that means) product. Incoming - Omega Speedmaster
Hello All,I had a recent gift from an ill family member. I wanted to spend it on something that can be remembered and passed on to my son eventually. I wanted a nice keepsake. I started my search looking at dress watches and enlisted the help of some of our fine members here (hi Dennis).I then realized that I may be able to get close to one of my grails - Speedmaster Professional. I always wanted one from 1969 for various reasons. The '69 was too expensive - but I might be able to get a decent mid-70s version. So, in searching for the mid '70s Speedy Pro, I ran across a Wakmann triple date chrono. Decided to Give My SMP a New Look, Nato Strap!
I've been wanting to get the Omega Ridged Rubber Strap for my SMP for the last ten years or so since I got my SMP. But, I just couldn't justify spending that much on it.My SMP has been great to me and has been my primary watch for the past 10 years. It has a lot of memories and sentimental value. But, I've gone through two clasps on it and I wanted to freshen it up a bit. So, I noticed the trend of the Nato and Zulu straps on the forum and decided to give it a shot.Initially I had an eBay special $5 watch tool kit that included a spring bar removal tool, but the tool SUCKED. So, I spent some money and bought the Bergeon one and I had my Omega bracelet off in minutes.Here are a couple pics of the watch:I'm enjoying it. If you guys have any other suggestions on other cool Nato or Zulu straps, please let me know!
