got to thinking about the mascot and Dayton, Ohio. . going to try to put pictures with my thoughtsDayton Ohio is a tool town, I learned a very long time ago that Dayton Ohio is/was the 4th largest area in the country for toolmaking behind SanFransico, L.A, ChicagoI spent two years at a trade school to learn how to operate the manual machine tools needed to build progressive dies, then I was hired here, worked here as an apprentice for 3.5 yrs, building progressive dies for Whirlpool Ovens, fuel tanks for Ford, fuel injection for Ford, catylitic convertors for GM, power window brackets for GM, pulley covers for John Deere, air conditioning condinsor dies for ChyrslerI wanted to be a graphic artist, but in Dayton Ohio? Ya have to learn the tool trade. My father spent 33 yrs working here as a machinist for GM, this is the old Delco Moraine brake plant, over 3,000 jobs went to Mexico when GM/Delphi closed this facilityDad worked at the brake plant all night and raised hogs at our farm, like
When I was a kid I remember looking at my uncle's wrist and his gold watch with the cool gold bandHe would "expand" the band off and let me check it out. Anyway, the other day I was in a store and saw a display case of "Speidels"and I remembered I had a couple of old school watches that needed bands. I got a few and put em on...They are still as fun now as they were then and brought back SO many memories!
I need a bit of advice: I'm looking for a watch for my father-in-law but the watch that is right for him is outside of what I am familiar with. He needs a dive style watch that he can wear for all occasions (he is a casual kind of guy, a retired boilermaker). He is also going through chemo and has been losing weight. I initially bought him what *I* thought he should have, a Seiko SKX009, but it turns out it is not right for him. He is losing weight and it is too big and heavy for him. He is no fuss, not interested in anything but a watch that he can wear in the water and never worry about. So I was thinking a 40mm quartz diver would be best for him. This is not a size of a type of watch I have ever looked a lot at so thought I would get some advice. So, any suggestions for a: Dive watch Analogue Quartz Not bracelet (too much weight) - so rubber/NATO etc No larger than 40mm Colour is ok but prob classic enough that can be worn out casual dining (e.g. Pepsi, blue dial, white dial etc but
What can you tell me about this $5 estate sale find? My guess is that it is a plated mid to late 60s watch. It is a mechanical wind working watch in good condition. The best part, my daughter found it and she loves it without and knowledge of its pedigree or value. Thoughts?
