Patek Philippe 5119R-001 wrist watches news:
One of the single most important features of watches intended to keep very accurate time is the presence of a stop seconds function. The single most important purpose of the tourbillon – as Breguet originally conceived it, certainly – is to make a watch more accurate. You would think therefore, in a rational universe, that you would see the tourbillon and a stop seconds function paired frequently, if not invariably . . . but you'd be wrong.First of all, let's talk tourbillon. The basic idea behind the tourbillon is pretty simple: it's a solution to a really old problem in watchmaking, which is that a watch will run very slightly faster, or slower, depending on what position it's in. This is mostly due to how gravity pulls on the balance and balance spring in different positions. I visited a WTF sponsor on Friday the 13th. I was greeted by a friendly and very knowledgeable sales associate. We talked about what we would like to see introduced at Basel this year. I also got to try on the Rolex Deep Sea :DI forgot to mention the most important part. I picked this up while I was there Who says Friday the 13th is unlucky?Sean
Hello all! New member here, and unfortunately not one with a cool collection. But I do like to dream! That's why I've been clicking through all your threads and checking out your pics.Anyway, I'm looking for a simple everyday watch, easy to read at a glance. I don't need chronographic complications, dual time zones, slide rules, etc. My wish list:Arabic numeralsBlack with white textDateAutomaticSecond sweep handBasically, I want the following super cheap Chinese piece in a REAL watch:I have my eye on a Lum-Tec M19 Automatic, which is at the top of my budget at $500. It looks great (unlike others I like the chapter marks), the lum is amazing, and it has a good story behind it. (Russian movement, hand built, American made, etc.)I'm just worried that it may be too large for my 7-inch wrist, too thick to wear comfortably, any maybe even too expensive.Seiko has some good offerings like this one; same width as the M19, but less money. What do you folks think? Any suggestions? Go for the M19
