Here is a watch that we unfortunately didn't see at Baselworld this past April, the new Peter Roberts Grand Complication 5. "New" is used softly here as this watch is actually based on a design and concept from 1972. Peter Roberts is a renowned British watchmaker, lecturer and consultant that created a watch, called the "Concentrique," as his graduation project from the famous WOSTEP (Watches of Switzerland Technical and Educational Program) watchmaking school. It is a timepiece he still wears all the time, and has been asked for quite sometime to produce and sell.Forty years ago, the Concentrique was ground-breaking as it was the first wristwatch with five centrally mounted hands, offering the time, chronograph seconds, pointer date, and a GMT hand all spanning from the center of the dial. Audemars Piguet VS. Hublot: The Turf Wars Continue In America
The turf wars are getting serious. This time I look at the battle on US soil between Swiss brands Audemars Piguet and Hublot. The heat between them has been on for a few years now. Behind the scenes the fight goes on all the time - with each trying to one up each other. It isn't a battle they publicly acknowledge, but the drama is interesting. Winner, loser? I think in a sense they both win because competition leads to better business and clever thinking.The funny thing is that in my opinion Audemars Piguet and Hublot have vastly different products. I don't even see them as direct competitors exactly. The real models that are in competition with one another are AP's Royal Oak Offshore collection and Hublot's Big Bang collection. Incoming: Seiko Mini Neo Monster Lite
My first automatic watch.Initially I was looking for a black Monster, but I found this watch at what I think was a really good price. Now that I have it, I actually think that I might prefer the styling. I'm not a diver, so the water resistance is not a big deal to me. I've tried on a few Monsters, but do not own one.The bracelet was missing some links, which I knew before I paid for it, and of course it did not fit me. That's OK though, because I was looking to put a rubber strap on the watch anyway. I wanted this to be a more casual watch. I actually ended up getting a strap at Dakota at the mall that I'm pretty happy with so far.First impressions: Automatics are awesome. It's mesmerizing to watch the second hand. Also, the watch has just enough color with the red accents.The lume blows my other Seiko out of the water, probably because there is so much of it. It's strikingly bright when you first step out of the light. It fades quickly, but still stays visible. I'll see how it does o
