Mid 90s Swiss Army Mecha-Quartz Chronograph?
A few weeks ago my Dad, an avid watch-nerd, brought to my attention a peculiar watch from his collection. The watch is a Swiss Army chronograph from the mid to late 90's that he believes was the first chronograph they produced, and one that was only available for a short amount of time. As far as looks go it's not particularly strange. It has the classic Swiss Army case design with a white face, and a fairly normal dial layout. What's weird about it is how it works. First, there is no moving seconds hand. The third sub-dial, which is located at 6, is a date index with a hand that points to the day, which is set by pushing a recessed button on the side of the case. This detail unto itself is fairly uncommon for a quartz chronograph, but what is really weird is how the chronograph works.When you start the chrono, you might find its behavior slightly strange. I bought myself this watch years ago, after I had seen it several times in several different shops in the Caribbean. I liked the LCD display for the day and date, because my eyes weren't good enough to read the tiny day/date on other, more ordinary watches. But I didn't ask enough questions.The battery has to be replaced every eighteen months to two years. No problem, right? Well, there's a gasket that has to be replaced at the same time, and it is NOT easily available. In St. Thomas, at Little Switzerland, it's not a problem. But many other places, including Raleigh, NC, it is a BIG problem. I took it to a reputable jeweler, they didn't replace the gasket, and as a result, I had to have the entire internal works replaced, at MY expense. $$$ Next battery, I was in St. Thomas, and got it done right. Next battery, at an expensive jeweler on Park Ave. in NY, got a battery which lasted two weeks, then leaked. Internals had to be replaced, again. Once, I sent it back to the Omeg

Hello AllNot sure if this is the right place to post, but here goes...My uncle died last year, and as the executors of his will my parents got the task of clearing out his apartment. Anyway, stuffed in the back of some drawers they came across these old timepieces. All are in pretty poor condition, and I'm sure the fob watches will probably never run again, but thought I'd post to see if anybody knew anything about them, or had any particular interest in them...Fob 1:I find this one, aesthetically at least, really pleasing and the pictures don't really do it justice. The maker on the front states H. Cohen, with Manchester underneath. The inner rear cover seems to have some hallmarkings but no idea what these signify! Got a DJ41....guess I was wrong.
My first Rolex....love it...DJ41 with Jubilee and fluted bezel....Rhodium (stunning)...I convinced myself I could wear it anywhere, at anytime before I bought it.Now I know it is really shiny but that may change over the years, but as of now, I see I was wrong in thinking I could wear it at all times and it not look or feel too dressy. So I am now thinking I need a Sub for when I am unshaven and in VERY casual clothes....I know they are $7,500 to $9,500 for a new or slightly used one. I sometimes see a $5,500 used one on this and other watch forums, but I don't quite know enough to know if I should steer clear of anything less than say, $7,500.FYI, I stayed away from Sub's to begin with, due to my many Seiko's that I thought would serve the same purpose and of course still do, but I really like how I feel when I wear a Rolex and want to have that feeling, even when I am uber casual.
