To be honest I was looking for a Pan since years and each time the proposed pieces were either not what I was looking for or too expensive for me. I was alos in the store in Firenze without a better result. Finally, yesterday I went to Lausanne and visited an AD who got Panerai recently, the choice was sufficient and I¡¯ve purchased this PAM00111.

Hello fellow collectors,I had never thought that there will be a day for me to post and seek advice for wise choice...Im trying to get myself a new watch for my birthday soon and recently came across 2 watches which drive me crazy. 1. PATEK Gondolo 5124g, which I love the shape and versatality. Especially the curve shape makes it extra special comparing to most of other similar shaped. This watch is simple, well to go with any occasion in my eyes. 2. Patek Annual Calender 5205g, I love the lugs' detailing, absolute art piece. This is one absolute stunning watch with great combination yet so clean and simple. I will say this watch goes so well wth suit or semi formal attire. The question is, I see less love for the gondolo 5124g in forums or instagram. Is is the reason of the "blood-line" issue or because of the simple mechanism and people tend to lean toward complication mechanism? Why the Lack of Interest in this Hamilton 981?
Several months ago, a Hamilton with a 981 movement went for over $400. I asked at the time why it went so high. The answer was that the sale price was low and the watch should have gone for more than $500. We all made comments about the dial being refinished incorrectly with the wrong font for Hamilton. Now, we have Ebay listing:Vintage 1923 SILVER Case Wire Lugs HAMILTON Wristwatch - eBay (item 270586251064 end time Jun-08-10 17:47:54 PDT)It is a silver cased 981 movement. It went for $193.62. I assume by the assay marks on the case back that it was not cased by Hamilton, although they did case 300 round 981's. They also sold 397 movements only. What made this watch worth so much less?If Hamilton used/sold its movements in order, this one would have been sold in 1922, though the seller may have been relying on the assay marks. Is this truly the "one that got away"?
